After 2 years of experience with Gran Turismo 5, I can easily say it is the best racing sim on the PS3 (until GT 6 comes out!). However, it definitely has its flaws. In this thread, you can post your biggest complaints about the online aspect of GT 5. Here are mine:

Drag and drift only rooms: The online lobbies are overrun with these rooms. There's nothing wrong with making rooms dedicated to either of the two, but there are just WAY too many of them!

Dumb restrictions: I don't use assists anymore, but when I go into my driving settings and see that the ability to use (for example) Skid Recovery Force and the driving line have been disabled, it makes me wonder why the host doesn't want people using those specific assists.

Cruise lobby track selection: Whenever you see a cruise/free run lobby, 9 times out of 10, the track is set to Special Stage Route 7, one of the variations of Circuit de la Sarthe, Nurburgring, or Indy Road Course. It's extremely rare to see a free run lobby that's on a different track than those listed above.

Those are a few of my gripes, what are yours?

People disable skid recovery because its a fake driver aid that improves your lap times.

Softs are a fair, but stupid tradeoff. I suggest you join rooms with longer races where you can see how much punishment they get for using them. Then you'll win with harder tyres.

Untrue. Only in very rare circumstances does taking a harder compound to avoid a pitstop gives you any kind of advantage.

Online is what it is, a free for all where everyone can make up their own rules. If you want something different than what you see, you have to create it yourself, and hope enough people feel the same way as you.

This is funny because draggers and drifters will tell you there are not enough rooms. They tend to get over-run by new people who have no idea what they're doing.

The trick is regions... Set it to all. I race almost exclusively at the nurburgring and there is rarely a USA nurburgring room. I always play in european servers.

USA is the only region with a huge drag race community.

Because Skid Recovery Force makes the user considerably faster than someone not running it.

I also run with no aids, and only play in SRF restricted rooms for this reason... a good player with SRF on? You'll never catch him.

Because those tracks all have huge straight-aways. Straight aways are good for cruising because you can do drag races.

ABS on, TCS off in high performance rooms. It's totally backwards.

Depends on your definition of High Performance rooms. The ABS Zero community is too small to warrant getting accustomed to ABS:0 especially if you like to stick to a specific PP range.

Example.. I love nurburgring gt500 races. At any given time there is maybe 1 server I can find that is ABS:0. So its not worth it.

Anyone who uses Racing Softs in a race lobby. Takes absolutely no skill to win.

This is perhaps one of the dumbest things I've heard someone say on GTplanet

You are aware in 95% of online rooms right now everyone is using racing softs. You act like people go into comfort hard race rooms and use RS and beat everyone.. Which never happens.

Baseless, pointless post.

This isn't true. The boost in lap times you get with RS will offset the RH's slightly superior longevity.

Lets assume we are racing 2 lap nurb, I pit and you don't. Everything else being equal, taking into the account the gap I'll put on you in lap 1, and the grip loss you'll lose in the 2nd lap, I'll definitely have cought you up and passed you by the end of the race.

Quit putting words in other people's mouths. Not once in my statement did I mention Comfort Hard tires.
You never have anything nice to say to anyone. I'm losing my patience with you.

Let's keep in mind that we're here to share our pet peeves about GT 5 online, not argue about things. :)

Sean is an easy one to lose patience with, lol I can agree.. But he's a good racer, we always use to run in to each other drag racing, always made for a great time 👍

If you have ABS off, 4 hours sounds normal. Even short. Clowns come in, crash into the 1st corner, insult, and leave.
I accidentally left a room open last night for about 6 hours. I didn't bother looking when I shut off the PS3, but experience tells me there was never more than 3 people on at once. Not enough worth starting a race for.

My biggest peeve has to be the lack of trust people have with others online. Accusations of hacking are more common now than ever.
I run a room full of skilled drivers running 425pp cars with racing soft tires and many even use… (wait for it…) SRF. (You can gasp in disgust now.)
I can understand how, to the uninitiated, seeing a bunch of econo-boxes tearing around the corners at those speeds can seem a little unreal. But we were NEVER called hackers before the emergence of these hacked cars.
It is not just the max-grip crowd (maybe I should call it a community), now anyone can be a suspect. Look through the ‘worst you’ve dealt with’ thread. So many people, good drivers, and winning, only to get accused of hacking and then getting kicked.
What is the GT5 online world coming too?
Now thanks to some talented but misguided hacker’s (or hackers’) hard work, we have this garage editing software.
We have a choice to use it or not.
A choice whether or not to cheat.
Those of you that do not believe in right or wrong or just choose to do wrong are ruining it for the rest of us.
I don’t consider you who use this garage editing software to be a hacker...

You are just a hack !

:idea:Why not have an oil-change option in room?

....wall of text..

This whole business of being accused of being a hacker has me confused. I race hybrid cars, mostly engine swaps, in races all the time. Did it last time around with hybriding and I'll continue to do it this time. I race only in circuit racing rooms, on RS when that's all I can find, on proper street rubber preferably. I win more than my share of races and I've never been called a hacker even though I am one, and never seen anyone else called a hacker either.

I don't think it happens very often and when it does, it's the equivalent of a sore loser shouting "cheater" at the victor and essentially meaningless. If you happen to get booted after being accused of being a hacker, is that really a place you wanted to stay anyway?

Humm, ok, throw those on a stock Yellowbird and tell me if you win.

I can drive it just fine on Sports Soft...
Sorry that I'm a good driver and don't use nooby tires that are meant for qualifying to achieve an easy win.
I'm entitled to my own opinion. You don't like it? Tough.

I just would like to know what qualifies them as "nooby" tires? Granted yes I enjoy sports soft tires also but you are not going to find me in a Le Mans car or F1 or even GT500 class car running "Sports" tires.. Can you say running those cars with racing grade tires is "for noobs"? I bet every driver in real life that really drives these cars would disagree..

Biggest annoyance online has to be, when hosting a "running in" lobby at route x and some randoms join and bring out the ridiculous 30 seconds a lap cars.
I have no problem with modded/hybridised cars, but these things are completely pointless, especially since most of them have to grind the rails to get through the corners.

Your post is about the use of RS tires. The Yellowbird is far from noobish regardless of tire choice. If you can pull off wins in 550pp rooms, all the power to you. Its more than just the tires. Its all skill with that one.

Noobish with RS tires is defined as the GT5 Ringer Cars: LFA, CSL, Ford GT, Italia, Audi R8 4.2 etc. etc.You know the ones I'm taking about.

I am simply stating, not all cars are easy to drive with RS tires. I prefer sport tires with everything off including ABS.

This is absolutely not true. London, but also Côte d'Azur have almost been exploited throughout the past months. At times you might also see Tokyo, SSR5, Rome or even Madrid cruise lobbies.
I have to say that Indy Road Course is actually rarely used for cruising, from what I've seen so far.

Wait what? You drive hacked cars and you win more than your fair share. Sounds more like “DeadNutsCheatin’ Racing”.

Anyway, maybe I see it more than you do because I am on every night. Since the hacked cars have re-emerged I have had several people type something about hacking in the chatbox before leaving. I have a friend that pretty much dominates the room any time she is in there. I have had to explain to many of my friends that I have known her for ages (since before the hacking started) and yes she is that fast.

I got accused of hacking my 3-speed ACR drag car. It's just a 6 speed with a ridiculously high gear set that with 1015hp and the messed up physics of GT I can light the tires up(RS as it is a Drag car) and run 1st 85mph. 1-3rd are the only gears used out of the 6 gears available.

If all you swap is an engine simply for better sound and you gain nothing in the process but better sound, I'd still call that DeadNutsEven:)

I see posts about racism and xenophobia online as well and I can't say I've ever seen that either. Once or twice early on I got kicked trying to join a Nascar room full of Americans because they thought we didn't have the "real" internet in our igloos but other than that I've been in rooms around the world and it's never been an issue for me nor have I really seen it be one for anyone else.

...other stuff...

I am mostly a low PP street car guy so that is all I will speak of.

The cars I own with the best engines have 5 speed transmissions.
My Toyota votz has a great motor, but it is held back by it's lame 5-speed transmission.

You, I, and anyone that has more than a hundred hours into this game, knows that if the best transmission you can get for your new car is a 5-speed, you have a fast car.

You really are trying to make your case based on engine sounds? Really?
