Hi guys, I know I'm a noob to GTplanet, and I recently started getting tons of online errors, and timed out every single time. I got gran turismo 6 in october this year, and it was working fine until about November 21st, then after I got a new router, everything started going all loopy. Getting messages like; A connection to the server could not be established, or 'The network is offline' and a lot more. I've tried everything, I've contacted PSN more than 20 times on this issue. I've tried port forwarding, and still no luck. I am doing this wireless, because I cannot have an ethernet cable plugged into my ps3, because the router is upstairs. If anyone knows how I can fix this, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I'm so sick of this! Thanks!

Just a few tips.

DO NOT use wireless. Solve your physical problem somehow first or at least in the short term to prove it is the issue.

Once hardwired you may not need to do the next two steps.

Fix IP address of PS3.

Place that IP address in the DMZ of the modem.

Lastly, yes the servers are still a little shaky at the moment because of the DOS attack over Xmas. And every time PD does server maintenance the servers are worse than before ;-) At last for a while.

I hope this helps. But I suspect it wont because you will not want to solve your physical issue and will continue to want to run wireless :-(

My PS3 is wireless to the router, and I have been disconnected from the server for only a couple of time while I have been playing every day in the last two month, but before that it was good.

I second this. I had huge connectivity issues in GT5 with the router, switched to CAT6 and instantly all connectivity problems disappeared. I also recall at the time that many people said it wouldn't work and gave a whole series of technical explanations why it wouldn't work, but it did work and I'm happy I made the switch. Now I'm running PC sims with the same setup and it works perfectly too. I also don't have the best internet connection only 6 down/1 up/80ish ping but still no issues whatsover.

Thanks a ton for the help, I DO want to use a wired connection, but I can't move the router around in my house.. considering its upstairs, and my ps3 is downstairs :(

CAT5/6 is good for 100m (330ft for Americans) with *NO* data loss. Last resort is just run the cable down the stairs and tell everyone "Don't trip" ;-)

But really, there is a hard wired solution *IF* you look hard enough. Another tip, *DO NOT* run the cable parallel to mains cables or in the same conduit. It must be shielded if within 300mm (1 foot) of mains.

Where is the entry point from the street to the upstairs modem? Run the cable back down that conduit to the lower storey. Do you have a downstairs phone or TV/Satellite connection? Use that conduit to run the cable.

I know it is not the answer *you* want but it is the answer *you* need.

Well I've seen tons of people playing with no problems. And my friends told me they haven't experienced anything wrong.

And there has been a hell of a lot more having problems due to the DDOS attacks over Christmas

How far is your PS3 away is from your modem/router, because if it is to far you may get disconnected from the server from time to time, but when I went wireless a few years ago I was having problems with being disconnected from the server because I was about 50 feet away from the modem/router. So I went and got myself a WIFI booster that sits halfway between the PS3 and the modem/router and that works so great. In post #5 and I said I was being disconnected from the server for only a couple of time while I have been playing every day in the last two month, It was my Network doing some upgrades to make it better.

It's most likely a distance to the router issue. I had no issues being wireless, but the router is only about 20 feet away. Try a wireless bridge that you can then wire to to help reach the other router.

If you have an old router kicking around, you can flash it and re-purpose it.

Not sure if its possible but pop down you local computer shop and ask the to make up a long lead, you might have to route it outdoors but they will advise.

I also have the upstairs/downstairs situation. Netgear makes a device that uses your existing home electrical wiring for a wired internet connection. It is their Powerline series. Modules plug into your electrical wall plugs at the router and PS3 locations and connect to the router and PS3 with standard CAT cable. I have used this system for years with no connection problems.
