Apologies if already a thread on this, but I've been wondering if PD will do anything in terms of online rankings in GT5.
Having played Prologue for so long I have gotten to recognise the fast racers and know when I am in for a good race, took me a while to get to that stage through repeated races until the ids became familiar. It would be nice to have some sort of world ranking so you know who you are racing against and people can aspire to rise up the rankings ladder and wear it as a badge of pride. It would also be good potentially for trying to match people of comparable levels together.
Now there will be many good ways rankings could be created and I think calculating an overall figure using the rankings from Arcade Mode would be a good method. In essence you might have for example 100 tracks and variances in GT5 times 600 cars, each car and track variation having 100 spaces on the leader board for each. Each user derives a score from being awarded points based on rankings obtained in each and all of the tracks.
So I take a Nissan Micra onto Suzuka and get 100th placed in the ranking, I get 1 point. I take a Ford Focus to the Nurburgring and get 51st ranked, that gives me another 49 points. My next stop if Tokyo R246 and I storm to the top of the rankings with an Impreza - that will be 100 points. I now have a total of 150 points thus and a global ranking is calculated from there.
It's thoroughly dynamic, I could go to bed and get up and find my score has been pushed down by better times lowering my individual rankings, thus it's up to me to get back racing and getting either my current rankings up or new rankings with different combinations posted.
Rankings reward patience and time spent and it's a good way to encourage people to try out as many different combinations of car and track as they can across the game. I currently have around 30 top 100 rankings and one in the top 10, I have no idea where it puts me relative to the next man however. This would do that for me.
