Apologies if already a thread on this, but I've been wondering if PD will do anything in terms of online rankings in GT5.

Having played Prologue for so long I have gotten to recognise the fast racers and know when I am in for a good race, took me a while to get to that stage through repeated races until the ids became familiar. It would be nice to have some sort of world ranking so you know who you are racing against and people can aspire to rise up the rankings ladder and wear it as a badge of pride. It would also be good potentially for trying to match people of comparable levels together.

Now there will be many good ways rankings could be created and I think calculating an overall figure using the rankings from Arcade Mode would be a good method. In essence you might have for example 100 tracks and variances in GT5 times 600 cars, each car and track variation having 100 spaces on the leader board for each. Each user derives a score from being awarded points based on rankings obtained in each and all of the tracks.

So I take a Nissan Micra onto Suzuka and get 100th placed in the ranking, I get 1 point. I take a Ford Focus to the Nurburgring and get 51st ranked, that gives me another 49 points. My next stop if Tokyo R246 and I storm to the top of the rankings with an Impreza - that will be 100 points. I now have a total of 150 points thus and a global ranking is calculated from there.

It's thoroughly dynamic, I could go to bed and get up and find my score has been pushed down by better times lowering my individual rankings, thus it's up to me to get back racing and getting either my current rankings up or new rankings with different combinations posted.

Rankings reward patience and time spent and it's a good way to encourage people to try out as many different combinations of car and track as they can across the game. I currently have around 30 top 100 rankings and one in the top 10, I have no idea where it puts me relative to the next man however. This would do that for me.

I think it's having a bit of a problem now, but have you checked out granturismostats.com? Site is awesome when it's working.

I believe there will be plenty of rankings, with plenty of different categorys. I hope it can be narrowed down to region too. I want to be able to check where I lie with people in my country, as well as the world.

This is a good idea.
I think it should also somehow take into account one's results in online races - final position and lap times.

An average finish is also welcome. You'd really be able to tell how good a driver is with that. Imagine seeing some one up top with an average finsh of 1 or 2 over 100+ races. That constancy.

Also a DNF % is needed. With also a certain DNF required races.

Has there been any clarification of this yet?

Will there be some sort of ladder system, skillup system or xp system or other ranking mechanism?

The game must give you some sort of 'rating' when it carries out matchmaking, so something based on this maybe?

It would be nice to feel you are working away towards something when you compete online, for example if like me you know you are never going to be the top guys, it would still be good to be able to improve your 'level' as you beat better players (or drop a level if you are beaten by a lesser player!).

I believe but not sure do to I haven't been able to refine the video from the latest demo videos of the Lambo. In the first video you'll see a roll ticker with names and times. But I think it's a logger of all the fastest times of the day on that track. So just maybe we'll have a ranking system, it may just give us the top 10 drivers for that track. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think they could incorporate a point system that you see in some online casual games, like on Yahoo. Before you begin your first race, you come into the online world with 1500 points. You earn points when you finish good in a race, and lose points when you finish bad in a race. If you race against people that have a higher ranking, and you beat them, you earn more, but if you lose, you don't lose too much. They have a higher ranking, os it's expected of them to beat you. The more people in the race too, the more points you can earn because of the more competition. Not sure what this point system is called, but I think it would work in GT5.

Sorry but that point system sound to much like SOCOM, the game of cheaters. GT5 should have some type of slandered champion pointing system built around racing. It could be done in a number of ways pending on the race and such.

There better be a special section for TGTT time trials, just as it is done in the show. There's setups for 400m, 1000m, and top speed tests in old GTs, so it's easy for them to implement this. A world leaderboard for each car would be awesome. They would have to have a leaderboard for bone stock cars.

I second that.

The only problem with TGTT time trials (TGTTTT lol) will be the cheating. With the layout of the track it would be messy trying to force players to stay inside the lines, if PD even bother try.

They just have to use the same penalty-logic they already use for Licenses (in any class you have to obey 2-wheel rule and respect in-track layout) and there will be no problem.

Nice ideas here... the most important for me would be a distinction / filtering by PAD or WHEEL... I really WANT to see where I stand in the Pad ranking... because as you all will agree 99,9% of the people drive faster with wheel...

C U on the track...

As long as there will be time trial leaderboards just like Prologue had, I'll be happy.

I agree with you, but on these conditions:
1. No wall riding should be allowed
2. No using run off areas
The laps should be red flagged immediately.

Oh, and it will be cool if they could also add the split sector times on the rankings. It would also be nice if you were NOT able to view and race the ghost cars of the top 10. Every man for himself...👍
