Online - Unplayable until format changes :(

Online is virtually unplayable because any time I do manage to get through all the various weaving traffic. Someone knocks me in to next week and the next thing I know I'm facing the wrong way and I can see the text '16/16' in the top corner of the screeN!

I'm afraid the only way to make online playable is to completely remove any form of contact with other vehicles. If anyone has ever played Trackmania for the PC then they will no that this is actually quite effictive.

I refuse to play online as there are always idiots who upset us honest drivers to the point of where the only way we can gain any kind of satisfaction is by bashing all round us and dishing it out ourselves!

The only way contact can work is if you can have your own private races and then you know who you are racing with.

Online is unplayable at the moment.

Smacktards are expected in console racing games but the horrible experience is compounded by a piece of penalty code that ONLY punish the victims and rewards corner cutting and the brilliance of the "performance point" system that does not work at all as designed as a device to balance the field.

Private rooms will solve 100% of the problems and should be part of the online code right from the get go, yet it is something that is not a priority for PD. This shows how little experience and knowledge they have with online gaming.

However, I have to disagree with you on removing contact.

Yes, the game badly needs patching to add a custom lobbies.

Have you tried racing in the expert event? I find those races to be fair with no ramming, I've only encounted close contact when battling other cars in and around the corners.

so when are the private lobbies starting out? Seems ridiculous that they're not in a racing game...

I regularly used to play Project Gotham online as well as Forza 2 and they both had private lobbies, and were a blast. Griefers were met with a steel-toed boot from the hosts.

i have to say i had some brilliant races today playing on the expert races online capped at 650pp. very clean and fast racing..ok we had a few very minor shunts but it only took you off your line for about a quarter of the turn. IcemanBHX i think it was and Locojojo are very clean drivers.

I have played LFS, Race 07 and GT Legends ONLINE a lot and it was good almost all the time, although in LFS there were enough wreckers alright, but that's only on public servers where everyone could enter easely. I'm finding it hard to believe GT5 is so messed up and it may be worse in the near future as more people get the game(sorry for my loudmouthing). Of course those wreckers do it intentionally because they find it amusing to bash "real people" online. AI isn't fun because it's not real people, so these **tards irritate people on purpose.

It is annoying and unplayable at the moment.. i have had 20 online races so far, and 2-3 were decent, 1 was really good (just 4 players on daytona) and the rest was a disaster.
Lag, shunting, people driving the wrong way, teleporting, HOSTS QUITING THE DAMN GAME! (had to put that there in caps, you know who you are.) etc, etc, etc.

again... more options and private rooms WILL solve almost all of the above mentioned drawbacks that game has.
Options meaning choosing how many players will race, what PP max/min, collisions on/off, and choose your own penalty system, if at all.
Last thing that forza 1 had, and forza 2 was missing for some reason, is a way to tell people what kind of race you are planning to race.
Forza 1 had it done in a way, so that you could see what the host was planning to do in a race... you could see "drifting only" for example... meaning the host wants a drift game, so there are no suprises if you enter a room.
Host migration is really needed as well.. quitting a game when hosting is unsportive behaviour, and it might fly in japan that if the manual says that its "not done" to quit a game, even if you are not hosting, the people over here don't care one bit about that.
THEY are losing, so just quit.. what are the consequences anyway you know? none, and that's how most people seem to think about it, sadly.

Private rooms meaning letting in who YOU want to race with, friends, people you know drive honestly, and offcourse, if you let people in that you dont know, and they dont behave, KICK them out of your lobby and let them set up their own destruction derby game.

Another thing that is needed REAL badly is a new or improved netcode.. the one GT5P has now is horrible... it can probably be tweaked, but so far it's the same, if not worse then the japanese netcode. (and that had people racing from all over the world on a server).
waaay too much teleporting and lag at the moment.

PD is on it's way though, and im glad it's sort of a beta.. this prologue game.. they have got a year or so to do some improvements here and there, because so far the game is great! and the core is really set up well.. it just needs some major tweaking here and there to make it that much better.

Its quite unplayedable but still can be fun... just dont get to 'irritated' by it :)
Is it just me but every time i get shunted it is a freakin lotus elise that does it :scared:

almost quited the race i was just driving, when i just in time realized i was host 💡

Forza 2 does have a filter system before you even search for a race (ie class/driving aids/damage type/track etc). Once in the lobby you can check 100% of the settings (probably about 30 different settings total) for the race that is about to start and with a mic you can talk to anyone in the room as well.

Prologue is way more than a demo, but it's definitely less than a game at this point. It's is like a really nice beta. PD does need to sort out it's netcode and online lobby system, but they have plenty of time to fix it. I am wondering if the 16 cars online at 1080p was a bit too much to bite off. They could scale back the 16 cars and the 1080p if needed and I'm sure the thought has crossed their mind. I imagine adding damage calculations, skid marks etc, won't make lag any less in GT5. If anything, it will slow things down without improving performance some other way. They need help on netcode and maybe they just need to scale back a bit. It sounds like there is about 1 year or so 'til GT 5, so they should figure something out by then.

Totally agree with you guys. However, I found in Expert online races there seems to be much less ****** smashing into your car :)

The Bad thing is though, Everyone (Including me) hates people smashing into your car, so when I "really" Crash, and spin out, and happen to hit someone else, Im afraid they think im a Bumper Basher , and il have a bad reputation :@

If you no what i mean... LOL

I was just about to write that :nervous:. as you say the expert events are much better than the earlier events.

alot of good points there, just wondering, will headsets be supported to allow us to speak to each other during the race, as collisions do happen, intended or not, ive hit a few people myself which is easy to do when cars are flying all over the track trying to do some kind of syncronised spinning ****, being able to say "sorry mate" would be a good thing.

I actually had no online problems today, the game worked well, no one pushed and I got a few finishes without any contact at all! Brilliant! I then had a real problem with some idiot that ruined my last race grrrr, it had me in a temper so that I drove only a 1:00.012 on the london track in my Ferrari

I agree with TuneMeister, When i let my sister or Girlfriend have ago online, there not quite so experienced as us, so when they make a mistake, it would be good to say sorry and explain lol.

It would be good if there were Violation rules like on rFactor, where if break say "The pit lane rule" you will be fined, £350. This way im sure people would think twice before entering an onlin event to bash bumpers. :)

"Is it just me but every time i get shunted it is a freakin lotus elise that does it "

It's the Clios and Evos that get me.

I've had some pretty good races in expert in the high speed ring and suzuka, the online play really does need to improve but hopefully PD'll get plenty of feedback from prologue so they can get the full game right.

Hi btw, I'm RF_Stonemonkey online.

Also, I'd like to see a deposit needed for each online race that you get back if you finish the race without quitting of if the server quits.

I had some clean races today.....but then there were guys just Rear ending me while braking at a turn....Collision should be Turned off seriously....A REALLY Laggy guy just touched me and I went flying into the run off area...

Hope they even come up with in-game chat as well...

I have been having great races in the JPN game, but I only ever race in PRO events. But its been ages since I have been punted off the track on purpose. There is one guy I come across who always is hosting and always quits, but now I just quit before the start and search again to get out of sync with his rooms. Works most of the time.

Overall the racing has been very good.

hello tunemeister i just had a couple of races with you on high speed ring reverse, i must say you are a clean driver...i was the crafty guy going in the pits all the time :) still managed to come first as well. i'll put your name down in the white list. my PSN ID is - Sarlech.

You stock pile money quite fast when playing online. Once you have all the cars, money means very little and I am sure most players would not care about losing some.

dang. I should start playing online then. Getting cash in the single player events is ridiculously slow.

Online does not get more then offline events:confused:

The thing is that you are having fun online most of the time and its easy to spend hours racing an event over and over. Plus think about 4 months down the line of 4 or more night a week spent racing online, how much money will you have? More than you know what to do with right?

because in 'time' its faster to do events then online races, in 'total' it will be different :)

rightio. I suppose it's one of those relativity things.

either way I'm gonna have to start online racing to jusify spending my dough on this game.

For me it was annoying until i finally could buy the F430, race the last Class A race and start online on pro... FINALLY, i hated the 4 standard races that you could do before you play all of it free. Those indeed are smash races but now... Great fights online :dopey:

Am I the only one that likes playing bumper cars and clean racing aswell?

Don't race in the begginers section if you dont want a rough race.

You just need to learn how to defend yourself and think strategically if you want to survive in begginers class.

And don't expect a car that is set up to run on a knife edge for ultimate speed to be any good in a rough race.

Two different games and both are welcome.

YES, i agree, they should REALLY get it so anyone can host a race, privetly or public, also maybe turn collisions OFF, i you want to race just to see whos quickest in the "raceline".
But as long as i can host a race and invite maybe only my friends or more, (look at Forza 2)....

Thanks mate, I try my best, I just love to race properly, not one for playing destruction derby :)
