Yep an online version was mentioned at a press conference.

I just ask myself, will those who bought GT4 already will be willing to invest in the same game again, only with the online components now available?

On second thought, GT Prologue did sell quite good and it was just a demo.

But not everyone has online capabilities. So I have my doubts if the online release will actually happen.

I was kinda wondering what was gonna be in the online version. Is it gonna be exactly the same as GT4, just with the addition of online, or are there gonna be some stuff taken out? added in? And when it comes out, can we use the cars we have from GT4? I can't really tell how they're gonna do this.

That would be great but I'm not holding my breath anytime soon. I've heard it all before.

The online expansion will only be for the Japanese version. You can already play GT4 online with X-Link but the Japanese & US/Europe versions are not compatible with each other due to the US/Europe version having extra cars Etc...

That's stupid, I'd rather have just waited till the end of the year for the online version.

Lame attempt at making more cash of us.

I think it's being released later this year so that we have the option of playing online if we want - I sure as hell don't - so that only those who want to play it have to pay for it.

Besides, this is old news anyway.

if its in the 20-30 dollar range or in that range with the trade in of the original gt4 ill pick it up. not paying another 50 for it though.

This has been tried with the Xbox game, Sega GT 2002 and it failed big time. Hardly anyone bought GT Online, I did though because I got it used for 7 bucks, but most people didn't buy it.

or perhaps it'll simply be an updated .exe equivalent that you'll just need to pick up a copy of OPM (official playstation amagazine) or have a friend pick up the mag, use the magazines's demo disc to copy the .exe over to your memory card, and boot the game, it'll use the .exe from the MC, and voila, online...

I'll buy it if its something like original GT4 owners get to buy the game for a 10 charge when they bring their disk to the store and the store keeps it and we get the new GT4's :)

GT4 online had better be priced very well, otherwise I won't be buying it. I'm already going to be saving my money for a DFP and a PS3 anyways.

I am not spendign anymore money. 1 GT4 is enough. I am not interested in online racing. Did it with Toca race driver2, flatout and was interested in racing online with GTR. There are always people whom cheat, run others off track etc. The only thing I am interested in are LAN parties. You know whom you're racing against, you can appoint an arbitrator, who can look out if the race is driven fairly by all the LAN members

they will probably add in a few extra cars and tracks so in the end everyon who bought regular gt4 will need to buy the online version to get the complete game but thats just what i think

Wow some of you paid too much.

After tax and shipping I paid $124 for GT4/DFP

I would get GT4 online if it's $29 retail meaning you should be able to find it for $20-25.

From what I've heard, it could possibly be an add-on disc to GT4. Pop it in, let it read your GT4 data, and then start playing online.

This way sounds better than a whole new game to buy.

Do you think they could just release an expansion with enough difference to handle the existing lag problem of more than 2 players. Wouldn't that take some re-coding that would have to spread throughout the complete game?

There was a proposed version of GT3 that was going to be released after GT3 A-spec was, it was gonna be a B-spec version...I guess it never got released. I wouldnt hold my breath about an online version of GT4 being released. Sony - This is already a great game, but, like MCX said before me, you should have fixed the problems that exist, then go ahead and make another version of the game.

This is so not likely to happen. Fixing the lag would not necesarily be an issue as the online mode would have to work on a modified engine anyway, they could put in graphical tweaks. However, like the guy before said, there is a reason it was called Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, that's because the new B-Spec manager mode was going to be released seperately. In the end they decided to just shove it in 4. Also, GT Concept was released in Japan but never over here. So in reality we probably won't see online play until GT5 in the states. However, I do think it'll be nice to be able to race online in a game where it doesn't always matter how much money you dump into the car, but how much skill you use in tweaking it out.
