Hey Ladies & Gents...it's been a long time coming but I have finally decided to post my cockpit on GTPlanet.
I want to thank all the big mod contributers on GTPlanet especially Chilicoke(pure legend; thanks mate!;)đź‘Ť)

The primary reason I'm posting my cockpit on here is to give any prospective DIY custom cockpit builders some more ideas to ponder over.:D

Description of Cockpit:

Custom designed all-alloy construction (Note: I highly recommend the use of Alloy for cockpit building; however note that if left clean and without a protective coat of clear or paint etc, it will scratch EXTREMELY EASILY! Even a finger nail is enough to mark it when you acheive the finish I have here. The upside is that Alloy is very light and relatively inexpensive...and Alloy is just a beautiful material to work with!:dopey:đź‘Ť

Logitech G25 ( Logitech makes great gear...I can't wait till there next wheel gets released; they should take on the T500!.:sly:)

Description of Mods:

Wheel:
1: Upgraded from Logitechs G25(270mm) to Momo's Monte Carlo(350mm) Wheel.
(Refer to 2nd Thread post for a review)
2: Wired up the Momo Horn button...not as easy task as one would assume.
3: Installed a set of Chilicoke 350mm paddle shifters.

Shifter:
1: Improved Shifter resistance by following Chilicokes guide.
2: Improved and silenced the shifting feel by applying a piece of electrical tape across the 'gear slot plate' to silence the shifting sounds.

Pedals:
1: Reverse mounted the Pedals (Hanging Hinge) so as to provide a more realistic feel; simulating GT cars and my own daily driver.:D
2: Dissasembled the pedals and applied some thin foam tape to silence the lift-off pedal sounds (If you attempt to do the same; note that if the tape foam is to thick you will have constant actuation of the pedals ie. brake is slightly on etc).
3: Installed the Perfect Pedal! (Refer to 2nd Thread post for reviews)

The lower frame rails have holes drilled to allow adjustment for shorty's:D

The GT seat cover is a licensed product that was sold during the pre-GT4 release promotions.

Totally seperate removeable shifter frame.

ZERO VISIBLE Cockpit wires was a key concept of the build.
You can't really see it that much, but I have covered both the top wheel tray and the keyboard tray with thin plastic to prevent scratches...the sticky tape you see in this photo is to prevent the plastic from bunching up when the grommet was put in.:)

Going for a larger wheel requires you to get larger paddle shifters as the smaller ones are out of the question...unless you have unusually long fingers...:odd:

This shot is an open view showing the thin foam tape applied to the contact zone between the Pedal arms and Pedal base.
My potentiometer wiring shown here is one of the greatest concepts of my Cockpit; I love how it protects and hides the wires out of sight!:cool:

Oversized Wheels

The facts; G25 wheel= 270mm, Momo Monte Carlo=350mm.

The feel of a true size steering wheel is very nice. Totoally unlike the 270mm thats standard. I think it gives you better control with cars that have a nervousness on turn-in. I decided to go with the larger wheel for this reason and the added realism.
Regarding Force Feedback strength...I like to run my wheel at a fairly low FFB; I seriously can't see how if you turned FFB up that it would not be strong enough...FFB 10 is enough to give you 'Popeye forearms'.:crazy:

The Hydraulic Brake conversion is not difficult to do and it does give you better brake control...however it is expensive.
If you like to run without ABS...then you would love the Hydraulic brake. Your control of brake force especially when your nearly at full stopping power is brilliant.
I found however that when I got my pedal, I had to drain quite alot of oil out as it was VERY FIRM!:eek:
You can make up your own adjustment kit for about $5(AUD).
When considering the cost vs driver gain; I would not recommend you doing this mod unless you run without ABS alot...then it would definitely be worth considering. There is gains to be had...but there expensive gains.;)

Beautiful job mate , love the attention to detail and general quality finish throughout.

After seeing your tidy wiring , I'm almost inspired enough to tackle mine. Its taped up and jammed into corners out of view , definitely needs a tidy up ! I also need to make a laptop tray as well. was thinking something similar to yours but possibly pivoting from the front side , like a car door does.

Yeah...not sure now why I have mine pivoting from the rear???:odd: Would have been better to have it pivot from the front...hmmm...what was I thinking haha?:odd:
Yeah the tidy wiring was something I thought about right from the start...especially the wheel wiring...I wanted it to look real tidy when finished.:)

Hey thanks GTR4T! Yeah actaully both the Wheel table and keyboard tray are covered in a thin pastic...that was really hard to get nice...but now you can hardly tell as it has sucked itself to the surface.:)

My Rig was almost all my own ideas with some input from the boiler-maker I got to put it together for me. Total cost of the rig without wheel and Hydraulic brake pedal....is a little higher than I would have liked...:nervous:....$900AUD....:eek:
I look at it like this...Gran Turismo is literally the only PS3 game I have brought, It's my only hobby thats costs me anything haha and the amount of fun I have had in my cockpit is...priceless.:D:tup:
