I just saw the movie yesterday, and could not happen but notice there where only 6 cars instead of the 12 we have now. Is GT6 really going back to just a 6 car grid?
If so i would be very-very dissapointed, as the 12 car grid makes it feel more like a proper race.

I would love to see more cars on track and 16 is still not much in my opinion in some races (Le Mans, Nürburgring, Spa, Daytona). However I would prefer 6 cars over 16 if they stay close to you in the race. Close pack racing with 6 cars is better then overtaking 15 in the first few corners and then chasing the rabbit.

Except that if they can fix the AI so that it can make 5 cars keep up with you, they can fix it so that 15 cars can keep up. That's not really an either/or thing.

I would gladly take 6 car fields, if it improves the graphics frame rate and display.

As said, most of the sixteen cars are just window dressing anyway, and serve no real purpose.

Clearly none of the demos have been focused on showing AI thus far.

So the AI so far is...what's the word I'm looking for? Starts with P...it's right on the tip of my tongue but I just can't seem to remember it...

LOL...Where have you been for the last 5 years?

These days, a lot of racing games have about 12 to a track. The only way you'll see six cars is probably only for some of those rally-type tracks. Otherwise, have no fear- 12+ car grids will be here (semi-unintentional rhyme). I'm hopeful we'll still get high grid counts. We'll perhaps even get 16 cars to a track for almost every race unlike the usual 12 cars to a track in GT5.

Just as an off-topic note, I'd like to see qualifying return so if in a stacked field, you have a better chance of winning by simply not being way back in the field trying to pass every last car in only a short amount of time. That even applies for tracks where it is tough to make passes at.

They cant have more the 16. The PS3 Hardware just cant run 17+ Vehicles in a race. GT5 already goes under 30FPS.. with 16 Vehicles on Course.

For online racing it is confirmed that there will be up to 16 cars on track. It was said by Kaz in one interview game yesterday and it's on the online lobby photo on the official site (the one with the wine names).

After 2.00?

Personally I have never seen GT5 go lower than 30fps and I don't remember digitalfoundry saying that after 2.00, in which they fixed fps issues dramatically.

They had plenty to say about GT6 Academy demo.

I'm not sure when 2.00 came out now, but I believe I played GT5 afterwards and there were still some stutters and skips, but on a less frequent basis.

It is still yet to be seen, that the PS3 can deliver an absolute consistent 60 fps (which is PD's claim) with 16 car fields. Even 30 fps is a stretch sometimes.

Can we close this thread? It is very useless to talk about six cars on track. Of course there are going to be more cars on yrack. Don't be silly.

GT5 was a really odd game when it came to grid count
16- in Arcade mode/ online
12 in offline events and seasonal
8 in one makes ( of any kind)
4 in rally races

That is because PS3 cannot handle those graphics on different location with 16 cars. PD are master of graphics so them some how pulled it off. Most games have only 8. GT6,5 runs twice the frames per second and still does more. Once GT5P did other games tried to do as well. If you consider dynamic weather, night racing. They are pushing PS3 as much as possible

I also noticed 6 cars on track. Max will be 16 cars but may be it depends on tracks and location how many AI cars can be on track

um your wrong 👎
you can run 16 PREMIUM cars on any track in arcade mode if you select any of the arcade cars. And you can run EIGHT rally premiums on any rally track if you pick one make. I also forgot to mention all course maker tracks allow you to race 15 opponents EVEN rally tracks.
Iv discovered many quirks in allot of games that allow you to run more cars / bots than are to be allowed. Motorstorm Apocalypse for example only allows ten cars in split screen but if you make a custom race you can actually race 15 * making 17 cars on track as opposed to the max 16

PD and GT6 have adaptive tesselation now, so the cars which is not close to us could be down tessalated if you know what I mean. Cars further away will have less details and cars close to us will have better details so we can achieve more than 16 in the field in long distance races like Le Mans etc.

I think it would be good for most races to have 24 cars on track and even more for endurance races. And in arcade mode to allow you to choose the amount of cars on track when you set-up a race.

More than 16 hasn't been mentioned once with GT6 and isn't likely until PS4 unless PD is going to drop a major bomb this week.
