Open Wheel Cars

Wouldn't it be good if FM4 could introduce Open Wheel cars. Like, McLaren could feature like Ferrari put the F1 car in that nonsense GT5.

Let's hear those views!

As far as I've heard they won't feature anytime soon, with T10 being so picky on things having to work right or not at all (in the physics department) it would be quite a pain to model the suspension movements correctly as well as look great and keep the game running at 60FPS

No car in-game actually has a physical connection between the wheels and the bodywork, so it's an obvious drawback of their physics model anyway. It should be their no.1 priority for FM5 come to think of it, before weather or anything else secondary to the car models themselves.

Well, they did it with the Ariel Atom in PGR4, and it looked pretty hilarious. So yeah, as much as I would love a Caterham or two, I can understand why T10 are staying away from open wheelers.

Inaccurate suspension motion on a Caterham would be far from the first thing to hinder the suspension of disbelief in this game. If T10 are worried about it, I'm not sure why. It certainly ranks lower on importance than, say...being able to drive a Caterham.

Not wanting to incorporate Formula 1 cars into the game, that I can understand.

Depends, if FM5 is coming to the current 360 then they need to work on weather and night first. Leave the suspension work to the next generation xbox.

I don't think weather is going to be seen in Forza as long as it's on the 360. It seems to struggle as is at 60FPS(notice the insane amount of jaggies on decals). Night is probably possible, although not dynamic.

As for open wheelers, I think it also has something to do with damage.

I think weather is possible on the 360 with some trickery while keeping the 60 fps.

Won't happen in FM4. Probably because at best the insides of the wheels will look like this

i.e Non-moving parts and suspension parts clipping with other suspension parts. I could live with this if it was the only issue if it meant I could have a Caterhams, KTM Xbows, Caparo T1's and MB W125's. But people like me are in the minority. There is an army of nitpickers out there ready to pounce on things like this. The Hummer was spotted and called out almost instantly for the same reasons and all the suspension is relatively well hidden. Then the wheel-on-wheel collision physics have to be correct..

Hopefully one day I'll be able to drive the cars I've listed above in fm. Couldn't care less about modern Formula cars TBH.

There's your answer why alot of things aren't in FM4. Although I wouldn't want egregiously horrible things in either for the sake of "getting it in".

Yeah, your right. In reality it would annoy me too. I may have been slightly misty eyed. It seems like a good idea when you don't have to see it everyday. I can live with the hummer because I've only ever noticed it in autovista. Can't lie my heart did sink a bit when I saw it. It would be in my face constantly from cockpit view in openwheelers. Thankfully I'm not the decision maker

One thing I can't stand though is framerate drop.

Let's not start on "GT5 vs 4za." That belongs here.

Open-wheeled cars. I think I'm Motarded has a point about the collision physics -- perhaps the collision box programming or damage effects couldn't handle the open gaps on an open-wheeled car. When two of them tangle, things can get interesting.

It's common knowledge that we won't be seeing open-wheel cars in Forza, at least on this generation of hardware, because of issues with the suspension modeling. That last sentence there is a garbled mess that makes no real sense, but if I deciphered it correctly it sounds like you're suggesting having F1 cars like those from McLaren similar to how Ferrari F1 cars appear in GT5. If I translated that into English properly, that isn't going to happen because Codemasters holds the video game rights to Formula One and consequently F1 cars. I'm not entirely up to speed on the technicalities behind the loophole through which GT5 managed to get a couple Ferrari F1 cars, but there's no way Forza is getting F1 cars as long as Codemasters has the F1 gaming rights.

It's the world's leading motorsport by an enormous margin, with at least eight times the global fan base of NASCAR. While adding F1 cars to Forza might be bad as a result of underwhelming representation (just one or two cars) much like how it was only technically present in GT5 and how NASCAR was only slightly depicted in GT5, there would otherwise be nothing wrong with adding cars from the world's leading motorsport.

Well..., come to think of it..., I'd imagine that the bulk of Forza sales are from the US, where F1 is an alien concept, so I suppose putting F1 cars in a game primarily bought by Americans would be sort of like casting pearls before swine. However, according to VGChartz (so take with a grain of salt), FM4 sells more units in Europe than in the US, and Europe is the home of F1 and appreciates it. VGChartz has the previous Forza games selling most of their units in the US though, which would go back to suggesting that most Forza players are incapable of properly appreciating F1 cars.

Depends, if FM5 is coming to the current 360....

It isn't. If FM5 releases at the end of 2013 that should put it early into the next Xbox's life cycle.

FM5 won't be on the 360, of course.
