After reading numerous posts regarding what cars should be included in GT5, I came to the question 'what cars should REALLY be included in the next installment of Gran Turismo'.

I was just playing around on GT4 and decided to modify the FWD Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. After modifying it, I began to wonder why the 4WD Turbo model wasn't featured in the game that is available here in the states. I simply figured that they did not need another Eclipse model but why so many Skylines if that is the case?

So what do people here believe constitutes a different model vehicle in the GT series? Do you think the next GT game should include more variations of cars such like the 300ZX 2+2 and the 300ZX 2 Seater regardless of engine variations or should the next game do without aesthetic (non noticeable) model changes and just include differing drivetrains (RWD Skyline R34 Sedan or GSX Eclipse)?

I hope this is not a repost of sorts, I was not sure what to search regarding this topic.

Yeah well, you got a point, but really this is what is being discussed in several threads like the porsche/lamborgini/ferrari threads, and the car wishlist sticky.

Ahhhhh ok.

I dont ever really feel like reading 5+ pages of posts about topics that usually end up straying from the subject at hand so I never know peoples thoughts on stuff like this.

You guys really need to stop trying to play mod. Let the mods decide on their very own which thread is a waste of boardspace.

But frankly, I want to see as much variety as possible in the car list. Sometimes, the small variations in cars are very appealing to me. And if that means 30 Skylines, yay. ;)

Hey, I have said many times to people that they shouldn't close things unnecesarry, or redirect every member to the stickies all the time(particularly in the drift subforum). If there's one thing I'm trying to prevent myself from doing, is to become a little wannabe-moderator.

In this case it's just a bit too simple, because I'm sure everyone agrees we should have more variety, not too much of a discussion I think.

The thing with having two identicle looking Skylines that have like 10kg's different weight, different colours and a different name is that it takes almost no effort to do, so if, irl there happens to be two very similar variations of one car, and PD happen to have license for said car's, why not implement them. Disk space has never been an issue for GT games since DVD, so they arn't replacing any other car's, they're addtional. So if it's a case of having variations or not, I say go for it, because if they arn't there, we're not getting anything else as a replacement.

To add what L4S said, often in Gran Turismo, there are unique paint jobs that go with different models, like the Skylines. Since we don't have a paint shop (yet), this allows us to get a car which pleases the eyes as well as the racing gland. Besides, no one is twisting your arm to buy them all, now are they? ;)

The reason they did not have more variations of the Eclipse has to be the fact that there wasn´t any more variations of the ´06 model when GT4 was made.

I was wondering for the old eclipse too, only FF though!

Only the one's that are aftermarket kit's then maybe, but 90% of them are factory models, which should be sold as such, as a factory model.

I still like the idea of there being only one version of each car in the "showroom", then you select which trim you'd like when you go to purchase it. That alone would reduce the apparent number of Skylines while still having them all in the game. Then it wouldn't seem so bad.. because it would be twenty different versions of the same car as opposed to twenty different cars.

I like that idea a lot. It would be more like real car shopping. So when you go into the Mitsubishi show room maybe the only model on display is the GSX but you can't afford that so maybe you order a GS-T or even the RS if you are real broke. Maybe it would be the opposite with only the RS on display but the you order a GS-T or GSX. It would be cool and add a bit of realism to car shopping.

As far as the number of cars, I say add all of them they can. Yes instead of 20 skylines I would rather see 3 with 17 other different makes of cars but that's not how PD operates. Do I think that many skylines is overkill. Yes, I will live though..

+1. That's a really good idea, although I have a feeling PD will continue to include every variant of every car in their official "car count"...and that's where half of the "every other car is a Skyline" complaints come from. :indiff:

It would look bad if PD said that GT5 had only 500 or 600 cars, compared to GT4's 720+...even if GT5 had 1000+ with every variant included.

JGTC cars could also be condensed. Since most cars of the same model and class have identical stats, the showroom could have one JGTC500 Skyline, one 500 Supra, one 300 Celica, etc. Then, when you highlight the car,(much like the paint choices for regular cars) you can pick the sponserhip you like. So instead of red, blue, green, etc. (like the stock cars) you pick Zexel, Castrol, Arta, Calsonic, etc. Each following game in the series has included more JGTC cars, so this could help keep the race car parts of the showrooms uncluttered. One base car for each model/class displayed, and from there you pick the paint job.

It would be really nice if GT5 was laid out in a sort of "family tree" like fashion.

For example, if you wanted a Volkswagen, you would click on the logo and the names of all the cars they offer pops up on the screen. After selecting the name, the various year-models of the cars would be shown (i.e Golf --> MKI, MKII, MKIII etc.) THEN, you could select from various trim models.

Most of us can agree than GT4 is a sort of encyclopedia of cars (i saw that in someones sig. once...dont remember who), having GT5 arranged in this fashion would certainly increase this effect.

I wasn't ever too curious about GT5...but I just watched a teaser on it for the PS3, and they showed way more than 6 cars...at once...jw...
