I am now planning on buying a some cockpit after i dumped my ugly self made thing. New version of playseats looks interesting but there are no reviews anywhere.

I got my Playseat Evolution (black with silver frame) only a week ago. Im not going to give any review or anything, only thing I can say is I personally cannot find one single thing about it that I consider a "Con". If you search google you will find several full depth reviews, as well as video's on youtube. Its stable and simulates exact sitting position you'd be in sitting in a car... Good luck!

EDIT: By the way my wheel is the Driving Force Pro, I will eventually upgrade to the G27 and purchase the shifter-holder(for the Playseat) sold seperately from Playseats.

When you said "WRC", did you mean "VRC" by any chance?

Just in case, I own a Bob Earl VRC chassis (http://www.bobearlracing.com/) and I'm very happy with it. Strong and sturdy.

However, as you can see on their website, it's a "laydown" design, simulating a Formula 1 racing position rather than an upright conventional car design.

For me, this is a big plus, for two reasons:

- I can leave it in place in front of my HDTV most of the time; it's low enough so that even from the couch or recliner we can see over it easily and it doesn't have to be moved out of the way like a Playseat.

- If it does need to be moved, it stows easily standing up vertically (seatback on the bottom) all by itself and takes up only about two square feet of floor space. So if I need to clear out the carpet space in front of the TV, I disconnect the cables, stand it on end and put it into the corner of the room.

These are two big advantages for me; YMMV.

If your TV is mounted high, you won't like it - sitting low on the floor you'd be looking up and your neck won't like it after a while. If you go to the website, though, you can see a photo (click on "VRC Setups" at top of homepage) from an owner who made a PVC pipe frame to raise the VRC up about a foot from the floor - you'd still have the F1 seating position without neck strain.

Just my $0.02.

Likely i will make my own from wood if do not find a suitable one. Can you heel&toe with the playseat evolution? And i ment playseat WRC(GT is really the same)

Yes you can heel-toe in the Playseat's. It can be found on several Youtube vids...I however can't due to my DFP pedals containing no clutch. A great quality Playseat Evo holds over most homemade setups, is that the whole thing can become quite compacted for those who need to put it up everytime after use(including the seat itself folding in half. But I mean stability and stitching and welding all A++ seriously.

I did this review in 2007 of the original EVO model.

Playseats even stole one of my photos for their homepage see below, the suckers...

Recommend you should consider getting one as they offer lots of adjustments but encourage changing the seat to a proper bucket or recliner as many of the members here have done.
Then maybe some pedal modification.

Hope it helps

I'll vouch for the Playseat Evo; I am enjoying mine and looks good to. I am leftfoot breaking and the wheel suppport (between your legs) does not get in the way.

In future may buy a real seat to replace original and pedals after the G25's give up the ghost (hopefully they last a few years!).

Ok evo looks to be the good alternative. But what is the thing with the seat, everybody seems to be keen in replacing it?

It is a 'mock' racing seat, as a real one would not fold. A good seat; not a great seat. But for $318.00 Canadian dollars a good buy.

A real race seat is more expensive and doesn't include the rig/frame.

It creeks a lot when getting in and out.
Comfort is limited, okay but not great. The bars that allow it to be folded can sometimes be felt in the backrest.

Perhaps consider the Gamepod with frame only and seat runners (add your own seat) for approx 323 euro.
Its the sturdiest at this price point and comes with Cobra Monaco bucket seat for approx 500 euro mate.

Costs a bit more but more for your money.

My main questions are more in the lines of were the new placement of the wheel arm is under the seat, is it better in this location cause you not hitting you knees on it trying to heel and toe or is it worse?
-Is it easy to get in and out of? seen video of the playseat Evo and its so easy to get in and out of, is this a pain in the butt to get in/out of?
-How Adjustable? i see levers on the images that looks like you can move the wheel arm up and down and the wheel base up and down on the arm plus the usual movement of the peddles like the Evo, is this correct? and can you get alot of adjustments from this style or is it in a place that makes it tuff to get it just right?
-Comfort of Chair? is the Suede better than the leather for long sessions? IE less sweating and softer on the body etc?
-Is the unit sturdy? seen the Evo videos and it seems stable as a rock, is this similar or better/worse?

Anyone who has the wheel or seen/tested it please give your feedback thanks, im eager to get this stand but a little worried its not up to standard with the EVO tho it does cost a couple hundred more and im guessing thats in the WRC name? but hoping its also in the build quality.
There is no reviews i can find and only 2 or 3 videos of this wheel so im stuck in limbo here so your feedback will go a long way.
Thanks

Never mind everyone,

Stroke of luck, the store that had the WRC also had the Evolution and both were on display to play around with side by side.
I will post my thoughts on the WRC here as i searched many site for info with not much to any info on it.

Playseat WRC vs Playseat Evolution Impressions

The WRC is a stunner to look at, its padding is much more than the Evo as it has a second layer of cushion that Velcro's on, down site is if you lean back you can feel the edge of the cush in your back as it only goes half way up.
Second and the biggest down side is the play in the unit of the WRC, not sitting in the unit it wobbles around if you push on it, the Evo on the other hand is solid as anything if you push on it in or out of the unit.
The main arm that holds the wheel has loads of play, a few mill left and right but pull it towards you and there is a good 1cm play, totally not acceptable for such an expensive unit, nothing worse than play in the wheel arm.
Think the reason for the play is the unit uses push down clips not so you can move it on the fly to adjust the unit, this is really nice feature, but to have play as a result is not worth it. You could always put a screw/bolt into the arm were it joins to the seat area to eliminate this issue but defeats the purpose.
Also i found the main arm is thicker than the Evo this causes your legs to lean against it more than the Evo's thinner style arm.
And while im on the arm it becomes hard to get in and out of the chair cause of the placement of the arm coming from the chair, good thing is you can slide the wheel up the arm very quickly but over time this would become annoying, the evo is a dream, you can slides in and out, nothing stopping you, it just works and works well.

I ended up buying the Evo in Black Suede with chair slider and Gear shifter attachment, even tho i went to buy the more expensive WRC, Im so glade i seen the 2 side by side and had a good hour to jump between the 2 and give them a good test and see the pro's and con's of each unit.
The Evo truly is a much better stand and makes me wonder why they changed such a good design for a much inferior design in the new models like the WRC and Nascar.

EDIT:

I just found this video of the WRC style wheel, you can clearly see the movement i was explaining, there is loads of play you can really see this towards the end of the video.

I really enjoy my WRC setup. The only issue I have with it is that the pedals needed to be spaced differently as the middle wheel column is so large. I like the material way better than what I expected.

the playseats are to expensive for their design, I'm gonna buy a Obutto oZone Sim Racing Cockpit heres the link http://www.obutto.com/ they're about $300 less than the WRC playseats, they dont have the bar sticking out the middle, and it doubles as a computer, gaming, etc area. It has a real car seat slider, so you can switch the seat out, and a lot of other cool stuff.
