I was watching the recent GT trailer on Youtube and i wanted to see other peoples thoughts on the video, but i saw this really is arrogant comment:

"STUPID POLYPHONY DIGITAL!!! THEY'RE USING STUPID U.S. OVALS!!! PD, GIVE US PREMIUM EUROPEAN TRACKS, NOT AMERICAN TRASH TRACKS!!! THEIR TRACKS ARE FLAT AND HAVE NO STRATEGY LIKE US EUROPEANS."

Im an american, i love motorsport, i love different types of race tracks, but i cant stand it when someone bashes ovals because they seem "too easy".

It would feel a little funny driving GT cars and Sportscars around ovals because in game it would be too 'easy'. Would be much if some form of NASCAR or Stock Car was in game.

They're worthless without cars made for oval racing as GT cars have far too much downforce. They don't even need to be stock cars, something like a Whelen Modified would be a blast on both road courses and ovals (I really want these things in a modern game, they've been absent since PS2).

I'm not the biggest fan of Nascar But I respect Nascar the same the way I respect chess. The thing about Nascar is its barebones and basic af (pardon my french). All the cars perform the same and have the same speed but because the track is just a simple Oval then all knowledge about track technicalities and names and exploits are out the window & it comes down to pure strategy and outwitting the competition. It takes the minute to minute battle of the 10th of a second energy and multiplies that by 100!! simply because no car is more than 5ft from each other. Its very rare in other forms of racing to win by a hair margin but in Nascar thats literally every single race. Its actually exciting once you get into it.

Clearly I am biased, but I like having them. I think they are well made and require an entire new caliber of skills to succeed on, the progressive banking on both ovals puts many players in a totally new experience, and as a result, provides a new challenge. Its good to shake it up every now and then, and I love what they have done.

Im not sure why do you take Youtube Comments seriously.

Especially on Racing Games for some reason, where the cancer level goes beyond 1000%.

Well, its just its really super arrogant and yeah youtube comments tend to be salty and immature, but there are people that comment who are actually positive and tall about the actual video and peacefully express their opinions.

I jusy wanted to see whats everyone elses thoughts on Oval tracks in the game.

I haven't had a chance to drive on either, but PD seems to have done a great job making 2 ovals that aren't like the 2 usually included in games(Indy & Daytona). Hopefully they add a proper oval car at some point so people can experience shorter ovals properly as they're much more challenging than a super speedway.

Ask me when I was a relative newcomer to GTPlanet, and I would probably tell you that ovals are mostly a waste of time. Ask a more mature me today, and I will tell you that I have no problem with ovals in a game like Gran Turismo Sport. The reason why is because oval racing employs a different level of strategy outside of basic road racing. Only problem, if any, is maybe try to get more licensed content rather than make your own version of real courses. Northern Isle is basically Bristol, and Bay Moon Speedway is basically Pocono (a high-banked Pocono Raceway). There is challenge to oval courses that most people often misconstrue prodigiously.

Before typing that paragraph, I saw the opening post. That comment is indeed arrogant, not to mention one-sided. I love a world of racing tracks. However... "stupid U.S. ovals?" "American trash tracks?" Then again (and speaking as a YouTube veteran)... that's YouTube for you. I have no problem with ovals and "American trash tracks" as much as I have no problem with "premium European tracks." And as a unique twist and speaking of "premium European courses," I wouldn't mind seeing Rockingham (as in England's Rockingham) and/or Eurospeedway Lausitz. Two ways to look at this. Ovals were not meant to be run exclusively with stock cars and various formula cars. Conversely, stock cars and certain open-wheel cars were not only meant to run these kinds of courses. After all- have you seen stock cars and Indy cars race on tracks other than ovals? So let's not say that ovals are only meant for these kinds of machines. You wouldn't see a proper GT car race a true oval, but it doesn't mean such GT or touring cars are taboo at ovals. I look at it as challenge and just something different.

My call- keep the ovals in GT Sport. Provide more unique forms of racing besides the usual road racing and rally.

There's nothing wrong with ovals, but the Gran Turismo style of very flat surfaced tracks does remove a lot of what is enjoyable and exciting about racing an oval. I'm not sure they're a particularly good fit for this specific game, considering the highly limited track and car count. I think they would have done better sticking with road racing, but then again I imagine that ovals are relatively easy to model compared to a road circuit.

I hope that Blue Moon at least has an infield.

Ovals add a particular type of challenge and a particular style of racing. It's not for everyone but it's a good addition to a game of this sort IMO. But in GTS it seems almost an afterthought without proper oval cars and without oval car style tuning adjustments. The buttery smooth surfaces remove all the nuance from the tracks. PD has somehow managed to take a very exciting form of racing and make it boring.

In less than 20 tracks, having 2 ovals is too muck IMO. Super speedway was a nice NASCAR track and we had NASCAR cars. Now we don't have Super Speedway (with either of its versions) nor NASCAR (or Indy) Cars.

I would prefer to see 2 more traditional F1 / DTM / Blancpain tracks to race on with the cars we have in GTS and see a NASCAR or Indy DLC with some ovals and cars.

I seriously doubt most people raced on ovals so much in previous games that it justifies having 2 of them (with no proper cars).

I think Nascar is on of those motorsports that I enjoy more to watch than to experience. I have a lot more fun on traditional technical tracks.

Your first mistake was reading YouTube comments lol. Truth is these oval tracks are trash in GTS, without suitable cars. I find it extremely lame seeing photos or videos of GT3 cars on ovals. That does zero to change my mind that PDI have turned a corner in regards to lack of direction and focus.

I get the impression they were easier to produce time wise and just added to boost track count.

Personally, I don't have a problem with oval tracks, but I don't enjoy racing on them. I can see the appeal, but it's not for me. Proper road courses will always be more fun in my opinion.

Back in GT5 days me and my friends used to run destruction derby races set to a fixed PP with a full track was pretty good run

Yeah, me too sometimes. But we had a lot of tracks, track creator and Nascar cars...

Considering the game only has 17 tracks, I think it would've been better if Polyphony had dropped oval as well as off-road racing completely and focused entirely on "European style" asphalt race tracks. GTS won't beat iRacing at oval racing, and it won't beat Codemaster's Dirt Rally/4 at off-road racing. In my opinion, Polyphony Digital wasted a lot of resources on those features that probably only a small part of the GT community will enjoy.

That and PCars2 coming with loads of more tracks.

I would suggest that a significant majority of GT Sport players will enjoy the variations offered.

Not everyone wants to spend hours determining if they should run 2.2 or 1.7 front camber.
Many people simply want to jump on a game and have fun.
And if they can race dirt, oval, or track, then even better.

More is better, that's correct. But without authentic oval racing cars, without authentic rally cars, it's kind of a half-a§§ed effort. Considering how little content GTS has compared to other competitors, I think PD should have focused their efforts more.

Do you think someone who wants to "jump on a game and have fun" is overly concerned that the Gr.B WRX isn't a perfect copy of the 2016 WRC car?

If you feel it's "half assed" that's fine.
All I was trying to point out was that I thought your view on who would enjoy different track types was too blinkered.

I hated that they were in. Still don't like Northern Isles that much but Blue moon is so much fun online. That with the fuel consumption races is something I enjoyed today.

A heavier car like those used in Nascar would force you to brake some. The toughest thing in the short ovals in Nascar is saving your brakes. The G3 cars barely require a lift, that is not how short ovals are raced in real life. Indy cars are the exception, shortest oval is 7/8 of a mile at Iowa. I still had some fun in those races, but they are not really very realistic.

I'm a NASCAR fan first and fan of other motorsport second. Even I hate ovals in GT Sport...

If we had NASCAR in this game, then I'd be more than happy to race a stock car on an oval... but we don't. I hate driving my GT3 Viper on Bristol. It feels so weird
