I just took part in a race wherein I was in first most of the race with a penalty of four seconds for going off wide onto the dirt. This penalty carried until the end of the race, where I slowed down to get rid of it (in second at the time, with two drivers close behind). I slowed down until the penalty was at 0.01s, which is genuine and not an exaggeration, and crossed the line, in second. However, I ended up in fourth because the penalty rounded up from 0.01s to 1 second, causing me to lose two positions. Is this realistic or genuinely absurd?

What do I mean by "Roundup"?

What I mean by roundup is when a penalty rounds up to the next second, even if that means adding 0.99s like in this case, at the end of the race when the player crosses the finish line.

Slow down penalties are unrealistic in & of themselves as far as I know, I've never seen them enforced in any real life motorsport I've ever watched. Sure, I've seen drivers choose for themselves to slow down to negate an unfair advantage gained if they cut a corner etc, but, never seen anything like the slow down penalties we get in "sims" in real life. The whole thing is a joke imo, & I'd much rather see real life penalties in sims like stop & go's plus drive throughs as well as post race penalties & DSQ's etc.

I voted yes and no.

No, it shouldn't round up, but then again, you shouldn't be able to burn it off in a fraction of the given time.

I dont mind the rounding up, but I’m not a fan of being able to scrub penalties on track at all to be honest. I would rather they just add this to your overall race time at the end, or force people to serve it in the pits if it’s a large enough time penalty.

I voted yes, no, and yes and no.

Yes because you earned a penalty.

No because .99s isn't fair when it can and does calculate everyones times to .000s in every race. It should only add what is earned. That said I also think you should only be able to scrub penalties on pit lane.

Yes and no because I voted for both.

Gotta say yes, it's fair. Penalties are the same for everyone and it's down to the individual to leave enough time and space to scrub them.

Rounding up 0.01 is a bitter pill to swallow but can you try for 0.001 next time, to see if it does it again?

I've hated the rounding up of penalties since the closed beta and have never really stopped complaining (and won't stop until it is fixed).
I understand that the penalty rounding is the same for everyone but no two people have the exact same strategy to delete the penalty time so having the penalties round up just causes unneeded chaos.
