Oscillations

I started with GT4 and the Logitech wireless handheld controller
(wireless replacement for the stock PS2 wired controllers). I noticed
that fine steering control was impossible. There's a dead zone around
center that is pretty wide. Nothing happens. Once past a threshold
the car abruptly steers in the desired direction. Very hard to
carefully setup for a turn and make precise steering corrections.

One of the really bad side effects of this is that sometimes you'd get
into these oscillations because the center is dead. You are turning
left a little too far, you try to correct, hit the dead-spot, your
brain corrects some more, you go past middle (nothing is happening)
and, when you finally get to the other side of the deadband you are
telling the car to turn the other way by a significant amount. Repeat
in the opposite direction and you get into these wild oscillations
that don't make for a good driving experience.

So...I thought...who wants to drive with a pair of joysticks anyhow?
I wanted a better experiece at more than one level.

I went out and bought the Sparco seat and Logitech's Driving Force Pro
wheel.

To my surprise, the same thing happens with the wheel. At this point
I am looking for some sort of deadband calibration or something to fix
this. Given the reviews out there I can't see this being normal for
this game. I got up to a 500HP RX7 using the wireless gamepad and the
darn thing is nearly impossible to drive at high speed due to these
oscillations. I passed the B and A licenses with a LOT of effort.
So, I think I can drive the sim, I just want a more realistic,
controllable and predictable experience around center.

BTW, this happens with low power cars at low speeds too...

Thanks,
