Hello, GTPlanet.
Now before you think this has been discussed too much, let me try to prove some difference. This topic is not about the overall soundtrack of the game. Instead, this is about some of the menu music, the theme for acquiring a license, the theme for winning a championship... that sort of thing. If you have a preference as to what kinds of original music should be made, let's talk about it.
I'll start.
I don't mind jazzy music. As long as it is not big bang or swing or something I can barely stay with, I don't mind jazzy music. GT3 had better music than GT2. GT1 had nice menu music with rock and techno. For GT4, I don't know. Here's my thing. Maybe for the showrooms, some jazzy music with techno beats will work pretty well. I think Namco games like Ridge Racer V and Tekken Tag Tournament have some of the best original techno beat samples. Would be nice to have some styles matched for GT4. For GT4, the showrooms for the cars should be more jazzy than pulsating beats. I'm going to try to validate my 3T (Tekken Tag Tournament) claim by listening to some of the music (to go off-topic, I either need to clean my CD or buy better version of Tekken Tag because the game crashes whenever I use or fight against Eddy). Yeah, the Namco sound team has some nice tracks with good beats. Since have recently gotten back into keyboard music, I'd surely love to make music based on the beat rhythm of the techno used in Namco games. I think something like this would work for the showroom. Then the city? I'd say some rhythmetic techno music that isn't like pure nightclub music. License tests? Here you have a choice. Either (a) silent, sweet jazz, or (b) slow R & B music. Choosing a race? Emotional techno, all the way. I don't think GT2's rock theme for race selection was nice at all. To get into the races, you need some rhythmetic techno to get you into the racing mood. If not techno, then some upbeat hip-hop that makes you want to DANCE! You can calm things down with the Tuning Shop. Rock-rap would be an alright consideration. I think some slow music like that would work. I would better prefer some hip-hop with some breakbeat or trance that isn't too uptempo. If you fail a license test, I liked the theme in Gran Turismo 3. Maybe something as pimpy or cool as that theme. If you pass a test, a heavenly jazz/classical theme would be nice. Some romantic R & B would also work. If you DOMINATE a test (or in other words, get a GOLD PRIZE for your efforts), I'd say some heavy metal or... dare I say again, some trance with a "victory" style of music. Kind of think about an upbeat song that says "you truly desevere this victory. Wish you future success in the future." For a championship or endurance win, classical song with a message of "it's all over, and you have locked up the championship," or a techno song with a message of "the race for 1st place is over, as you have won it all. Let's celebrate!" If in either situation you place 2nd or worse after a championship or endurance, either a jazzy song of "well, you had every chance to win, but it wasn't meant to be for you in this race/endurance. Improve your skills and try again," or a slow rock song of "they're going down next time!"
If I think of any others, I'll relay them to you all. But what do you think should be the music types when you aren't racing right now?
