You only need to get bronze to get to the next round. Prizes are anounced but not yet available in GT5. (Maybe in the next DLC?)
I think the rankings just to see how many people are playing GT-A around the world.

but the only thing that counts is the last ranking at the end of the event

Haha I hope your right, because I am not going to put in any more effort to these challenges unless its necessary. Last GT Academy we had playseats, cutoffs etc to worry about so we were all just banging our head against the walls trying to shave fractions of a second. Not to mention all the dam lawn cutting we had to do when Choate found the "fast route" on Cape Ring lol

If you want my opinion, which I doubt it, you'd better serve your time here if you push to at least try for Gold and beyond. Have fun with it! When you hit your skill limit (as I did last night :P) simply give it 20 min break. Clear your head. Wait for as long as you need to mentally prepare for another try. There are a few types of players trying this GT Academy.

1)Playing for fun and/or prizes only
2)Playing to win it but official rules deny them a "win"
3)Playing to lead, win prizes, and go all the way to Silverstone.

These aren't the only types of players but if you want #3 you have no choice but to train hard and train often. Anything less and you'll find yourself losing.

I'm with you on this statement. Gonna get my golds then lap away on actual tracks. Not a big fan of this set-up compared to actual time trials.

below is a quote from GT website

What's the final time trial event?
The 8-week competition will boil down to one FINAL online time trial challenge – Round 8, Event 5. The event is only open from June 11, 2012 to June 24, 2012 so make it count! Only the fastest lap times will be recorded and entered into the national leaderboards so you must improve your results to move up in rankings. The top 32 players (pending eligibility verification) will be flown to the National Finals in July where they will compete against each other to be one of the 16 finalists.

So everything else is just for fun/practice for the actual Final TimeTrial 👍 think you have to pass the tests but to get to the next round although not sure .

I just want to get all gold's for the free prize cars, I don't care how long it will take as long as I get'em

I'd play to win but I've only got a pad so it pretty much puts me out. Plus the Gran Turismo website says I need to be able to use one as the final parts will be using wheels.

I am pretty much playing to beat a guy who says he is better than me and even though he has a wheel I am proud to say I've beaten him on all ten :D YES YES YES YES YES!!!

I have a G25 but I am not going to break it out until we are competing for times., I'll just use the DS3 to get to the next round.

 Ah the memories.

any idea how many people approx are hitting bronze?
That's impossible to tell but at the moment there are 151,675 players and they have won 791,380 golds. That's 5.2 golds per player. These numbers are changing pretty fast.

well people who have gotten bronze or failed altogether could probably tell:P
Btw i am not quiet sure is it bronze cut off each week or overall bronze cut off on week 7? I'm guessing the latter.

When does the first round ends? I´m in holliday and will come on sunday home, I hope I can qualify...

This timetable is mentioned on the gran-turismo website:

Round 1 and 2: 1/5 (Tue) 17.00BST – 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST
Round 3 and 4: 14/5 (Mon) 00:00 - 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST
Round 5 and 6: 28/5 (Mon) 00:00 - 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST
Round 7 and 8: 11/6 (Mon) 00:00 - 24/6 (Sun) 23:59 BST

So you can even join in next month according to this.

I am actually a little worried because the way they did GT Academy last time things were a bit unorganized. They could come out of nowhere and say "playseat awarded to xxxx" and everyone will be like wtf? There were prizes for the first rounds?

I'm kinda confused as to why they haven't posted official rules yet....i feel like they're planning something... :P

1-2 & 1-3 were the only ones where getting gold was a bit hard, even you don't have to brake or change gear. The rest was quite easy in my opinion...
