Overheating Toyota GT86 GT4 car

There is no option to open/close radiator but after about 5 laps of every race I do I start to overheat and have blown my engine in my 1st 2 career races. Any suggestions? I am pushing the car pretty dang hard because I been having to start in the back (please fix ;)) but I don't know why I would be overheating the engine.

I won't say that it cannot be a bug, but have you tried the car in, for example, private testing to see if by driving it slightly less hard (e.g. earlier upshifting) you can prevent the engine from overheating?

I'll try that today. Also I just remembered that I have damage set to visual only so shouldn't it not blow engines anyway? or is that just for suspension damage etc.

Blown engine is controlled by the mechanical failure setting. It can even happen with damage turned off if you close your radiator too much.

The road-going version of GT86 overheating also.

This one is known and will be fixed soon. I'll forward the report of the GT4 version (probably fixed too already)

I noticed it happens when you keep the engine in high revs. Like you said "pushing it". So the engine is always racing, which can cause overheating, or throwing a piston. I don't see the issue

Can someone give a brief explanation as to why an engine blows? I know in flight sims I open and close my water and oil radiators depending on temps if I push the plane too hard.

1. What will cause my car to overheat? I know late shifting but what else? What about downshifts?

2. If my engine starts to overheat, what do I do about it?

3. How do you figure out how open/closed your radiator should be?

Damaging the car in the front will also cause overheating.
You may think it's only a small bump but if you watch the telemetry you'll see the temps start to increase.

Time of day also affects the temps.
Ian Bell also said they simulate the air ducts getting blocked by sand, etc when you have off track excursions.

What I do is go out and drive and watch the temps.
I adjust the radiator until I'm running at about 90. That gives me some leeway in case of a small bump or off track excursion.

If something happens in a race and my temps start going up I'll immediately start short shifting and keeping an eye on them.
If they still go over 100 I'd consider a pitstop for repairs.

Remember, starting from the back, you're in dirty hot air from the cars ahead. I'm tyres, brakes and engine will overheat.

During the straights, pull out to grab fresh air.

Broken waterpump, cylinder head, radiator, low oil or issue with cooling system. irl

In game; I'm assuming red lining the engine and radiator restriction.

If car starts overheating I believe you have to pit and open the radiator more.

The car should stay around 210f. If you wanted to determine your peak radiator flow, you can do few Laps with the rad at lowest restriction level. Time how long it takes for the engine to overheat, then keep adjusting it until it takes about ten mins to overheat or remains cool alltogether

I'm doing a private test in the GT86 GT4, its overheating after about 5 laps.

I'll try to do another set of laps, short shifting, see if I get different result.

This car does also have the option to turn the boost down, but having already raced online against the other GT4 cars, turning down the boost would would make it very slow.

Red lining on upshift does damage. Most race cars have shift lights in the cockpit. If you're not in cockpit view, you won't see them. The "shift indicator" that comes up on the HUD Tachometer is not as accurate as the shift lights in the cockpit.

Some cars, like the C7R GTE, you don't even want to take to the redline, as you get more acceleration by shifting earlier, as indicated by the lights on steering wheel.

Downshifting is the really big one though. Rapid fire downshifting will cook the engine real quick. You can get away with doing it on a quali lap, or for extra braking force during a late lunge to pass someone, but for regular race pace, you want to avoid banging the revs off the limiter on downshifting.

Are details like that modeled?
Yes. Your Engineer will advise you.
They've even modeled debris build up. Pretty trick.
I found out the hard way, after going into a gravel trap, without hitting anything.

No luck with the GT86 GT4.

I tried a 5 lap run, short shifting every gear change, it made no difference in how fast the oil temp climbs.

I tried reducing the boost pressure down to 85%, combined with short shifting, and still no difference.

This car is not raceable in this condition

Yeah I never finished the season. Blew my engine in 3 out of the 4 races that I did.

I have the same problem with the Lambo Super Trofeo. Trying to run in a series but I can't if the engine blows up after 4 laps

If you front damage goes above 7 your engine starts taking damage and eventually blows up.
Above 7 and you'll probably have to pit for repairs.

A handful of random cars across various disciplines seem unable to drive at any kind of pace without overheating. Can't even cool off on the bare minimum power needed to coast, they just maintain temperature or get hotter, even in cooler weather. I have damage turned off, only mechanical failures.

Same

Engine blowing in this game needs a solid rework before the e-sports can even think of beginning imo. I'm not sure if the way it works now is realistic or not, but it's certainly very annoying imo.
