after recently building my new PC i upgraded the standard processor heatsink and fan to cope with P4's up to 3.6Ghz, i have mine currently overclocked to 3.0Ghz (2.8 standard)
with this upgraded heatsink would it allow me to overclock up to 3.6Ghz or is that to high for just a 2.8 to handle?

Why would you want to? 2.8ghz could handle any 3D game at the moment. There really is no need to risk frying your CPU.

yeh true i dont think i will bother then, you dont happen to know where i could find out information about the P4 operating temperatures do you?

There is no guarantee that if you buy heatsink for a 3.06 GHz processor that you will reach that speed with a lower clock speed processor. I don't know the normal temperature for a P4, but generally, the temperature should not reach 60 C. Normal temps should be around 35 - 50 C.

You can safely overclock you CPU by gradually increasing the clock speed until Windows becomes unstable or the temperature becomes to high. If it does become unstable, go back to the next lower clock. If the system doesn't start at all, you went way to far. Turn off the power, restart, and re-enter a safe clock speed.

You can also use games or benchmarking programs to test to see if your system is stable overclocked.
