Paddle shifters in Manual w/o ACL better?

Greetings to all.
Last night I was running the R3 yellow Compuware Corvette model in Rivals.(Road Atlanta) Cant remember what the car is called exactly. I usually run that with Paddles set to "Manual with Clutch" and ACL on. That supposively is the fastest from what I've read. TC on.

I was getting a lot of tank slapping(stock required) which is normal for me, as I am not so hot. I decided to play around with the settings.
I clicked ACL off and changed it to "Manual" in Difficulty, using paddles. What a difference, no where near as much tank slapping! I knocked off about 6 seconds.
Have you heard of that? I don't know if it was the ACL OFF setting or that I changed to Manual in "Difficulty" or both that made such a big difference. :boggled:

Thank you.

ACL? That's a bit hmm, I'm not a fan of that idea since it seems like it's circumventing the game.
Pad users are able to do the same thing. That's why Fanatec introduced it on some of their wheels. The ACL does not help much in upper class cars, like S class up, like I found out. It not only did not help , it hendered performance, or it was the switch from Manual w/ Clutch setting.

I'm pretty sure pad users can't, otherwise what would be the point in having the manual with clutch option?

I'm quite happy to keep using my clutch with my wheel anyway, it doesn't make me any slower that I have to do it myself, I just think it seems a bit strange that you can have an ACL option.

Right. Pad users can either manipulate the clutch button themselves, or rely on the game's default auto-clutch. It's not the same as this ACL thing.

Were you getting loose under acceleration and/or deceleration, or just while turning? I imagine it's the former... I'm not a wheel user, but i've experienced something similar using the "A-clutch" MTC setup with the controller and some high performance cars. What I think is happening: the "Manual" clutch difficulty does a better job feathering the clutch on up and downshifts to prevent drivetrain shock (sucking up the last little bits of your traction and sending you around) than does either the "A-clutch" controller or your ACL setup.

Can you change the engage/disengage curve shape (slope) of the ACL? Meaning: instead of disngaging or reengaging instantaneously, it disengages and reengages over 0.10-0.05 seconds? That might help smooth the shift, reducing shock at the wheels, if it's a function of the Fanatec control software. If so, you could have the best of both worlds: max speed shifts with minimum wheelspin.

That is an excellent theory, makes sense why ACL is much more effective on lower class cars. ;)

No there is no adjustment, either on or off, but once again a very good observation/theory. Thanks, I enjoyed, your take on it. 👍

Oh, and yes, it happens on the throttle not the turning. Just going to take practice.

Well, almost all cars with a paddle shift have an automatic clutch anyways. If you want realism, get a wheel with a gated manual and a clutch, paddles, and one of those sequential shifters that look normal but shift by bumping the shift lever forward or backward.
