paddles or stick?

I personally use the stick because I like the feel of it, but, it is much more convient to use the paddles especially on a fast car.

What do you use?:sly:

Both of them suck. They feel like pressing a button, which feels bad but I prefer to use the stick cause it looks more cool then just using the paddles(buttons) :dopey:

if i'm driving a car that uses paddles in real life, i'll use paddles. if it uses a shifter in real life, i use the stick

I always use my MC2's stick for shifting and the DFP's stick for e-brake. I'd use the paddles on the F1 cars and other sequencial cars, but my paddles don't work half the time.

When playing GTlegends, I use the Frex H-shift+ (with clutch pedal).
For RBR and GTR i use the sequential stick on the side of the DFP.

I use both. I use the stick on the straights and easy corners and the Paddles on the hard corners(like U-turns).And requires two hands to turn it fast enough.Mainly if i'm finding the event hard or getting a fast time. If not i just use the Stick.
If i'm playing F1 i usualy use the paddles so it feels realistic.:)

It's an old topic but I have a DFGT and i'm not sure what's best, shift with the paddles (not really paddles, more like buttons) or the stick.

The thing is that i'm used to shift with the paddles, but this means that I have my hands always on this fixed position, with my middle finger on the paddles. Like this (that's not me in that video btw)

This can be a problem in real tight cornering, because I have to turn the wheel so far that it's very hard to keep shifting. I would use the stick then for one shift.

But recently i've been playing with the stick some more and what I like about this is that my hands are totally free (well atleast one is all the time). I can turn the wheel without needing my hands on this fixed position to control the paddles. Now I can play more with the wheel if you know what I mean. Like this (again, not me in this video)

I find this important not only because tight cornering can make it hard to control the paddles, I also noticed that when shifting with the paddles i'm more inclined not to turn the wheel as much as I do when I shift with the stick. This can result in taking a corner wider and slower than needed. You can see this also happens to the guy in the first video.

And not only that, I find it also easier to correct oversteer when i'm shifting with the stick, because my hands are free so I can make more sudden drastic movements which often are needed. And although the guy in the second video is drifting, it's still a great example to show what I mean with my hand being free.

How do you guys shift? (as this topic is from 2006, i'm not sure which wheels were used back then :))

I use the stick on rfactor (Except F1 mods) and I use the paddles for Gran Turismo, just the force feedback is different, that's the reasoning behind it for me. FFB on GT is stronger for me, therefore I need both hands on the wheel at all times!

for me Paddles, stick on G25 is tricky if used H not sequential, and sometimes sequential but not that much as paddles.

(dfgt)Stick most of the time but when i'm really going for it or in a realy hard car to drive I usually use the paddles.

Depends on situation... For example for RBR I use the stick as hand brake and shift with paddles. Otherwise for tarmac sims generally stick because that is what most cars I race use. F1 of course paddles. I also use H-shifter whenever appropriate and sometimes when not appropriate because it´s so much fun.

^ yeah i use whatever the real car uses. It seems like the latest NFS Shift patch got rid of the lag, so I'll try a gated shifter w/ that. Holly resurrection batman. back from 2006. Gated Shifter is definitely harder. But much more immersive with cars that actually use that type of tranny like the ones in the Historx Mod for rFactor.

We need someone to make a uber rally sim w/ DiRT 2 engine. I REALLY like how you can actually see the other cars and catch up to them on long rally stages if they make a mistake or crash.

Whatever the car uses. If the car is normally automatic or it has paddles, I shift with the paddles. For the rest it's stick which I prefer over the paddles.
Either way I'm going for the most true to life experience.

I don´t need that. Richard Burns Rally is still pure perfection. DIRT 2 should be and stay arcade :)

lol RBR is not perfection. I Like DiRT 2. I said that It would be nice to have a sim w/ the same graphics.

I like DIRT 2 as an arcade title which is what it´s. It will never get the physics of the RBR there is to much crap under the hood. And even then I would want more muted realistic graphics then DIRT 2s arcade graphics. I don´t think DIRT 2 overall look more real then RBR graphics either to be honest.

RBR with proper widescreen support is all you ever need.

👍

As for the topic...

I tend to go for whatever the vehicle utilizes. F1/LMP Car = Paddles, Rally/Touring Car = Sequential, Everything else = H-Gate (Fanatec 911 Turbo S)

;)
