My 16TB RAID array is screwed and it is causing my PC to freeze, bluescreen or even power off, but it is going to be a pain in the ass to find out what is really going on with it

Hardware raid box.

No errors,

Removed drives and their SMART status are all OK but for some reason the raid box does detect correctly via eSATA, when it does the PC will lock up, if it does lock up you cant mount it(assign a letter), some times the PC will bluescreen with it or fully turn off.

Works fine with USB 3.0

Doing through SMART checks on each drive
But it could be my mainboards eSATA controller
The eSATA cable
The eSATA controller on the RAID

So it's an external enclosure connected via eSATA? The OS isn't on it is it?

It is this type of thing.

What RAID array are you using? RAID 0 (striped), RAID 1 (mirrored), 0+1, 5, 10, JBOD? Windows is likely having trouble reading some data on the array, whether it's some data corruption or a punctured array (where it copies over bad data) it's hard to say.

Do you hear any odd noises coming from the unit? Pinging, spinning up and stopping? if you plug it into a 2nd computer, does it do the same thing there too?

Usually these things don't end well, unless you have a backup of your data. In which case, you can demolish the array, make a new one and copy your data back over.

RAID 5.
All the drives show OK when i checked their smart values.
But I can access the RAID with USB.

That is odd, yea it must be something with the eSata connection then. Do you have any other eSata devices to plug into your computer to see if those work?

No other eSATA devices.
I am getting a new eSATA cable just in case it is that.
But if it is not the cable, it could be the controller on either the RAID or mainboard.
