This is something i have been getting stuck into these past few weeks, its physically and mentally challenging, and has a high element of danger, which is why i do it....less for the danger though! More for the physical side.

Since i started doing it ive become noticably stronger (and a little bit more daring) and ave gradually been getting better and better.

For those who dont know, parkour is the creation of David Belle, its a way of getting around, its quicker and much more fun then just, for example, going down stairs, why walk down the stairs when you could jump them, and given the right setting, why walk up the stairs when theres a perfectly good wall to bound up.

At the moment me and my traceurs have just been getting to grips with basics before we start bouncing off evrything like David Belle, basics such as Vaulting, wall running/climbing, obviously coming back down from the walls and perfecting the landing, jumping over things, mostly things that you would normally walk around, such as benches, bins, gates etc. At the moment what i am trying to achieve, is not only more strength, but more confidence in myself, all the time in parkour you think, can you do it, can i jump that bench, can i get up that wall, do i have the power to do it, a lot of it is mental as well as pysichal.

It gives an amazing sense of achievment that sports like football (soccer to you americans) just dont give you, like today, i achieved some things im happy with and that will be very useful, and vital, in day to day parkour, to name a few, i have now pretty much perfected my wall running technique, i scaled a 20 foot wall today with ease, in perspective, i struggled on a 15 footer before i perfected it, i just hit the right buttons today. Another, the "kong vault" where both hands grab the rail your going over and your legs go bewteen your arms over the rail..hard to explain but its fast and looks good. Jumping over things, is a lot more on the mental side, this was shown today, i ran at a becnh, lengthways, so its a 6 foot long bech 1 foot or so off the ground, i ran at it and cleared it after 3 days of trying, the days before, i had been thinking, what if i miss, today i thought, im gonna make it, its having confidence in yourself.

Its a great fun sport/thing (not sure what it could be classed as) to do and to learn, and you will never stop learning which is the fun thing, you can literally do it anywhere, the world is your practice ground.

So is there anyone else who does this? Please post and we can discuss techniques:)

Heres a 10 minute video of David Belle in action:

I have watched videos on this, and I find it absolutely fascinating. One of my friends is learning this stuff, too.

I could never do the mental aspect of it, too dangerous for me. Good luck!

I'm interested in it but I'm not built for it. You're either graceful or not and I fall into the latter catagory. I move like a wombat.

I like to watch it though.

Seems cool, David Belle is really imperessive. I don't think I could do it though, I don't want to break something.
But I might give it a try. :)

Ashley.

MmmmmMM! Teeth-breakingly fun!

Mmmmm, picnic benches are touch, but managed to do one the other day....one of my traceurs had a bit of a fall...Famine cursed him with the "teethbreakingly fun" comment:P He went for a kong and his feet caught the bar and he went over on his face...not the best thing to do.
