I don't know if I've asked this question here yet, and hopefully this is in the right place.

Trying to Develop Video Games and actually do PC gaming as well. Now I'm not trying to develop GTA V or Crysis games etc, but just something that will help me get started.

Currently have a Laptop it's an HP it's okay, but I know it's not really meant to PC Gaming/Creating anything.

Budget is $800-900 is what I'm shooting for I know it won't, and lastly I'm not ready to build my own Desktop I know it's an option, but just not ready right now.

Just out of curiosity, why are you not ready to build?

If you're really not interested in building, a prebuilt system is your obvious solution. You can also customize a prebuilt but it will obviously set you back more money.

EDIT: I wanted to compare the customizable one I linked to building one yourself with as near as possible the same parts. Conclusion - customized prebuilt with and i5-4690K, 8Gb of RAM, 500Gb HDD, an R9 270 GPU, a CD/DVD Burner and Windows 8.1 came to $972.93 while the same parts if you bought it and assembled it yourself comes to right around $800.

Becuase knowing me I'd go for broke, and I'm technically broke lol. Seriously though right now just a recent college grad, and kinda want to wait cause it would be one of those future projects. I will check out the links though, and I guess ultimately kinda scared to build one because I've only ever took a computer apart once, and have never built one from scratch.

I think I also should ask about what's a good CPU/GPU to start with I know you don't necessarily need more than 8GB RAM either too at least not yet.

Assembling a computer from off-the-shelf parts isn't anything to be afraid of. It only takes half an hour or so for the actual assembly, and doesn't involve any tools other than a screwdriver.

You're not building a computer until you break out the logic template and the wire wrap tool :D

8GB is plenty of RAM for most purposes. The key is keep it expandable for later, as needs and finances dictate. So select a motherboard that can accommodate 16GB or more. As for CPU, any medium to high end should do fairly well; i5 at 3+ GHz or better (not sure what an equivalent AMD part would be).

BTW there's probably no reason why your current laptop can't be used for development as long as you're not trying to develop cutting-edge stuff just yet.

Well my laptop specs go like this
8GB RAM
A10-4700m Processor
Radeon 7660g 512MB RAM for the graphics
750GB HDD

To put it in one way I've been using Unity for a little while, but I can't get it to run north of 30 FPS after while, and I'm afraid if I try to add even more things may not run at all, and I don't have Unity Pro.

Seeing as TB put that stuff up I might have to look into that one it's a extremely great build, and from the looks even better than other ones I've seen so far as well.

Updating this thread to say think I've changed my mind since a month ago after hoping over to XoticPC my budget might be raised a little to at least 1400-1800 instead.

As of right now pretty much settled on a Laptop. Because I'm more on the move now than just able to sit somewhere which means Desktop won't help me too much there.

What game engine are you developing the game for, if you don't mind me asking? That could have a lot of impact on what you could buy.
