Penalties are BS

Facts! I have had a lot of issues with penalties myself and people driving into me/ramming me into a wall and me getting the penalty

It is very frustrating and I do wish there were online races that had the cars ghosted on all passes/contact
 
There has to be cheat codes people are using to NOT get penalized, it's completely ridiculous.
And then you go into a corner late or brake to late then get a 5 sec penalty for going off the track?? That's just completely unrealistic. In ANY real racing, you don't get a penalty for sliding off a turn, things like this just ruin the actual racing, and this whole game is SUPPOSED to be a tribute to motorsports.

For a while they were doing like .5 or 1 second penalties, I don't understand at all these 5 sec penalties, esp when other cars hit you.. oh here's your 5 sec penalty for allowing other cars to hit you.

At the start of the race you do ⬆️,⬇️,⬅️,➡️,L1,L2,R1,R2,triangle,triangle,circle,X,circle,X and that gives you no penalties!!

Yah I guess by putting yourself 10 seconds behind everyone else so then you can't get hit by anyone and penalized for it..

I saw 2 different guys today in 2 different races in front of me wreck cars in front of them to get that spot and not get penalized at all.

They overly warn people to race "clean" but there isn't anything clean about any racing in Gran Turismo

It has been rubbish ever since the start of GTS's life, and hasn't fundamentally changed from there to GT7 now. They have fiddled with the details, but it has always seemed to work off the same small number of inputs, basically:
  • was there contact and how hard (ignore below a threshold x)
  • was there a change in position within y seconds of the contact
  • did a car leave the track within z seconds of the contact

Maybe more than that, but that seems to be most of it, and anything extra it uses seems to only be at a similar level of complexity to the above. It has never managed to assign fault in a way that matches how humans perceive fault. It might sometimes get it right, but it has also sometimes got it wrong with every variation (of the parameters x,y,z etc) so far.
 
Penalties in GT has been rubbish since its indroduction in GT4.
Only punishes the player, never the AI type mindset
