Phil Jackson is back! Will it make a difference?

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Yep, Mr Jackson is back! 👍 He announced it on the news at 2:00PM today. Does anyone here think that he will get the Lakers back on track to more NBA Championships? Will Kobe finally listen to his words?

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I sometimes feel that Lakers need to trade Kobe away and get more players to balance out the team....*raises flame shield*

Flame away now! I want to hear everyone else's opinion! :embarrassed: 👍

Phil Jackson will make a difference. I don't see a championship for them, unless they make some moves in their roster.

I love Kobe, but I do see where you are coming from. Kobe can be one of the most selfish type of player. He's a bit of a loner, and it really shows out on the court. I don't think the Lakers should look to trade Kobe. He is the Lakers. He will not have the distraction, he faced this season. He will work together with the "Zen Master". It's gonna be fine, IMO.

P.S. Looks like SA's gonna lose the game 3 to the Pistons. 👎

I agree, the Lackers..i mean Lakers roster needs some definite tuning if they want to reach the playoffs.

Kobe will listen to Phil now, seeing how bad he did on his own this season...

Phil Jackson was just a guy in the right place at the right time. Very overrated. If the Lakers make the playoffs next year I'll be surprised.

Phil blasted Kobe in his book. I don't see how the two can make eyecontact now.

How about MJ and Scottie without Phil Jackson? OK, that one's arguable. How about Kobe and Shaq without Phil Jackson?

Phil Jackson do choose his teams carefully, but it's little more than being in the right place at the right time, IMO. :)

How about Kobe and Shaq after Phil. They weren't on the same team, and Shaq led the Heat to the ECF. Kobe didn't do anything because he isn't that great and the rest of the Lakers sucked.

Kobe is one of the best SG in the league. There was a reason why he did not perform very well this season. He nearly went to prison, remember? I'd say that's a serious distraction. I know it would scare the crap out of me. :nervous:

As far as Shaq leading the Heat to the Eastern Conference Finals........ I thought that was Wade? Plus, how hard is it to reach the ECF anyway, especially when you don't have to play Detroit until the ECF. Heck, they didn't even play Indiana. Then, they lose against the lowly Detroit(Yes, Pistons were horrible in that series). Shaq couldn't win a Championship before Phil, and he most likely won't win one now.

As far as Kobe and Phil might not be seeing each other eye to eye, there's a rumor that suggests, Kobe will get one chance from Phil. If he fails to lift the Lakers, Lakers will trade Kobe. Sounds fair enough. :)

What was it... like $10 mil or something? His ass better make a difference. :dopey:  So retarded... :sigh:
I guess when you win as many Championships as he has, you command boatload of $$$. Everybody in the NBA's overpaid anyway. :guilty:

Before Phil Jackson can improve the team, they really should look at their roster. :yuck: You know, I think the Lakers missed Jerry West(GM) more than they missed Jackson.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Since Jackson is back now, what do you guys think of their new 17 year old center? :odd:
They drafted that high school center? :D I'd be really surprised if a kid straight out of high school can hold his own in the NBA, but then again, I don't know anything about him. I just hope he doesn't turn into another Eddy Curry......... wait, he's a Laker. Of course I hope he turns into another Curry!

Both Shaq and Wade were our stars in the playoffs (and much of the regular season of course), but in the end Shaq was the one carrying us. Wade was injured as were the rest of our starting 5, adn had we given the ball to Shaq down low more often at the end of game 7, we might have won.

It's just as hard to win in the West as it is in the East. Basketball is basketball.

How long was Shaq without Phil Jackson as a coach? Very early in his career, i imagine.

I don't want to put Shaq down too much, so I'll just say everybody was talking about Wade in the playoffs. Shaq, not so much. ;)

Is that what NBA viewers in the East belive? Sorry, I don't mean to offend you, but Eastern Conference has been the laughing stock of the NBA for quite sometime now. Until the surgence of the Pistons, nobody(except for the folks, back east) paid any attention to the East Conf. I even remember when my Blazers lost against the Lakers in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. To a lot of people, that was considered the Finals. East is getting better, but even Shaq moving there hasn't put East on par with the West. Many bad teams in the West would be a playoff team in the East.

I don't think so. Shaq played probably 7, 8 years until he started to play under Jackson. I think, like two of those were with the Lakers? If I remember correctly, as soon as Jackson took over(like within a season or two), they won the Championship. :)

I was going to post this earlier, but we had a power outage earlier(I was pretty close to going out to buy some candles) and I forgot to.

Blazers struck a deal with Nate McMillan today. He was a Super Sonic coach for last 5 seasons. I don't like him, because he's been a Sonic for like almost 20 years(they are my teams rival), but I guess I gotta hope it will work out. :)

What makes you say think teams in the west are better than teams in the east?

He won't make a shred of difference. Shaq is gone and so is any hopes of the playoffs for the Lakers.

You can't be serious....... are you? Have you been a sleep since the late 90's?

I'm sorry, but your question is SO out there, I can't even begin to answer your question seriously. :D I suggest NBA.com, and do a little research on Win/Loss record of Eastern Conference teams since the late 90's. If you had said that Memphis basketball team is as good as the Spurs and Pistons, I'd have taken you more seriously. :P

P.S. I said in my earlier post that "East" has been the laughing stock of the NBA for while. That's what they've been called by the media, "laughing stock".

Shaq was the man on the Lakers team, but I think they have a good shot at the playoffs. Playoffs, not the championship. I know they don't have West anymore, but their GM can't be too stupid. They will make moves(trades/FA) to improve the roster. If Kobe doesn't perform, even early in the season, look for the Lakers to shop him. I'm very surprised by how many people doens't give Phil Jackson any credit for the rings he's won. Give Jackson a decent team, Lakers will make noise.

Giancarlo
Fine, whatever. We swept the first 2 rounds of the playoffs anyway.
Are you talking about Miami Heat? If so, Heat is one of those few good teams in the East. 👍 I can think of few good Eastern teams. Pistons, Heat, full strength Pacers. However, bragging about how the Heat swept the first two teams only support my case that most Eastern Conference teams are still weak.

I know, i'm agreeing with you seeing as how there are more losing teams in the East than in the West. The Heat are the only team i really care about, yeah.

My bad. :ouch: I misunderstood.

You probably live in Florida? You should check out Touring Mars' story in "things you used to believe" thread in the rumble strips. It's on the 3rd page and it involves a scout from the "other" Florida basketball team. :D

HEY the 76ers, Wizards, and Bulls aren't that weak
👍

JFM92_GTRacer
no i'm just sayin' that the Sixers, Wizards, and Bulls are not weak like he said they were
You mean me, right? :)

Anyways, here it is:

Sixers: against West/.333 against East/.635 overall/.524
Wiz: against West/.567 against East/.538 overall/.549
Bulls: against West/.500 against East/.615 overall/.573

They are still weak teams, if they can post winning numbers only against Eastern Conference teams. You could argue Wizards actually faired well against the Western teams, but I'd say they were swept by Miami. We'd be both right.... arguably. :D

I'm sorry, but those three teams are nothing to brag about. Sixers are downright horrible, Wizards won just over half the games. Bulls record doesn't look too bad, but in the West, they wouldn't have made the playoffs.

P.S. When my team, Blazers were between .500 - .600(like your three teams there), most fans considered them weak to just OK. And they got those record, mostly against the stronger Western Conference teams.

If you compare team to team talent across the east and west, the west clearly has the upper hand. San Antonio, Dallas, Sacramento, Denver, Houston, Pheonix and the list goes on. The Pistons and Heat might be able to compete with these teams, but overall the east just isn't as good

Bingo! 👍 East has definitely improved over last season or two, but clearly has long ways to go.

OK, u prove the point
but of course if u compare the teams i said that werent as weak to the West Conference, they suck
but if u compare them to the east conference they are not as bad

OH YEA, u said the Blazers got their bad record because they play mostly West Conference teams. Does that mean that you're sayin' the Blazers would've done better against East conference teams, YEAH RIGHT  , i'm not disrespecting ur teams but that's a fact.

Are you talking about this season? This season, the Blazers fired the headcoach Maurice Cheeks, and threw rest of the season away. There were two reasons, why Blazers did this.

1. To develope the young talent on the team(Telfair, Outlaw, etc.).

2. To get the higher lottery pick.

They threw games.
