Wildlife photography is my passion so another trip to Africa was in order. I spent 2 weeks in Kruger NP South Africa travelling most of the length of the park. Started in the South an slowly making my way to the North. Kruger NP is roughly 20,000km2 (or +- half the size of the Netherlands) and borders Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Jonathan, my guide, picked me up at a hotel near OR Tambo Jo’burg airport and it took us roughly 5 hours driving to get to the first SAN camp in Kruger NP called Berg en Dal. After a 2 night stay the following nights were at Crocodile Bridge, Skukuza, Satara, Letaba and Shingwedzi. We exit at Punda Maria gate roughly 40km from the border with Zimbabwe.
Trips like these can get quite expensive if you make use of a Travel-agency in your own country. Making use of a local guide can significantly reduce cost, even more so if you’re not too picky about food. My primary goal is to photograph wildlife, 3-5 star food is not one of the priorities. If you’re thinking of doing a similar trip I’d suggest you contact Jonathan at Asahambe Adventures in Pretoria and feel free to quote my name.
The luxury I permit myself though is to stay in cabins (airco) instead of c®amping which is 5x cheaper.
Anyway enough text so here some photographs of the trip.
White Rhino
Scops Owl
African Hawk Eagle
White bearded vulture
Flap necked chameleon
Sunset (with giraffe and elephant)
Pied Kingfisher
Burchell’s Coucal
Kudu male
White fronted Bee-eaters
Leopard (note porqupine quill in cheek in righthand leopard)
Leopard on his way to a date, but she wasn’t interested.
