I'm kinda disappointed bit, but these shots also give me some ideas. I think NTX's is my overall favourite simply because I don't really love the whole cartoon effect of Bram's. Behind that would be Swiss'. It'd be the top of my list if it weren't so... simple is probably to right word. It's solid, but not daring like Bram's.

I'm still happy to lose to it, though ;)

No surprise to me. i knew i didn't stand a chance against NTX. did what I could, but I've been handily pwned.

NTX: The only things I don't positively love are the noise filter (it clouds the windows way too much), and the car used. beyond that, solid composition, fantastic colours, and great editing overall. You could have used that for the speed topic in Brams bracket, and it woulda worked there too. I love multifaceted shots!

Me: (explanation as to what was done)
Basic stuff. changed the cars colour, added a vignette to make it look a bit like a "camera in a camera" view, did some balance work, added a feather around the car to soften it a bit. Overall, I'll say it was really quite sub par for a 2.0 competition, but i wanted to get something in.

Bram: bram...bram....bram...dear god that is awesome. The only detraction is the massive amount of jaggies which resulted from the effect you used. Beyond that, I'd never peg it as a GT4 shot, unless I knew for a damned fact it was. EXCELLENT WORK!

Speed:
I really like the ghosting around the car. looks like rain, IMHO. Beautiful effect. Biggest problem is the image size. Use photobucket and upload a smaller preview linked to a full size man! That would be 10x more awesome if I could see the full size. Also, doesn't quite]/i] have the sense of speed Bram captured. The fence contrast is good. Looks like the sun is just hitting it through the "clouds".

Skyline:
What happened man? this had such potential to be a great shot, but a couple of things went really wrong. Firstly, the entire thing is too dark. Maybe that's what you went for, but the dark colour of the car doesn't help at all. The noise filter should be background only, IMHO, so you need to bump the brightness/contrast, cut the car, add the noise, etc, you get it. i would have liked to see a sharper car, instead of a blurred one, as is used. Like I said, you have the potential for a very artistic and "70's" styled shot, but a few things just went...wrong. The background is fantastic. The car part of the shot needs work.

Swiss: Damn I love this shot. The highlights are just right, the car is in good contrast to the gray jungle around it, the vanishing point (I'll assume) blur is pointed just right...the only real faults I can find are the headlights (I get the impression that their reflection is almost muted.) and, as with NTX's, the noise is a bit too thick. Makes for an overly grainy shot, IMHO.

LDS: most disappointed in this shot, to be honest. it's solid. it's squeaky clean. But I get no sense of "wow this is awesome" from it. I get "here's a shot of a Mitsu that's been edited and looks great". nothing particularly wrong, but it just doesn't stand out.On the good side, it's squeaky friggin clean. Really man, I can't find a single fault other than the fact that it seems so...so...soulless? I guess. not quite the word, but I can't really describe it.

Cambio: Just edges out LDS, because I get a sense of passion from it. it's like that poster you cut from a magazine 10 ought years ago and has hung on your wall for the past decade. it's not particularly better editing wise, but I believe it to be a better picture despite.

I know I might get some flak for the final bracket, but I stand by my decisions.

Thanks for the compliments guys 👍

I did over-sharpened the review a little bit, and I'm going to sharpen the image in another direction next time. I just sharpened the whole image, but there are too much jaggies indeed. I'm going to try to sharpen the image for the car and background seperately next time, the background is too soft and the car too sharp. I also messed up the rims when shooting in GT4. The rims were quite blurry, so in PS I just used the burn tool to try and hide the blurry effect...

Lovely work there Lds 👍 I think this shot stands out most from all entries. I love the composition with that blurred background 👍

Ok, here it goes.

Red Cars

NTX – NTX style(very simple and calm shots, but yet Powerful smashing pumpkins). I don’t know how he does, but realism of the car is great, the car has a shape, a form, a volume. It is a great picture, although that zoom blur on the grass allied with those weird textures ruins it a bit.

Tupacrulez – A not so bad has he thinks shot. It is good, it had potential to be a great shot and wordy opponent if it only was executed right. It didn’t need much, just a little radial blur to hide those hard textures and a bit wind/sky effect, changing his colors to perfect blue, and added some smoke to the drift and getting rid of the venting; it would be a fantastic shot.

Great Speed

Bram – This shot just screams: Welcome to the 2.0. The cleanup is great, although some hard edges, but that is because of that process of cleanup. The background is great, I think it bends well with the car. The back wind is CRAZY, and although you know it is a norm in the shots not to show the wing, because, has everyone knows, it almost never bends with the car, and it normally shows lots of weird textures, that almost make it look like it is made of paper, and yet, you went against all odds, and put it there and it looks great. That just shows how awe some the shot is. There are just one thing that disturbs me that is the car windows, it isn’t really right. It passes from white to dark and then white again…

Speed – Again the same problem. The full size picture is too small. But from what it can be seen, the background seems a little to blur and soft, making the glowing and softness a bit too much exaggerated.

70’s Cars – For me, this was the hardest battle to cast vote.

Skyline – I tell you, if the blur was right, I had voted for your picture, because IMO, the rest is great and it impresses me allot. You only needed to uniform the blur horizontally. In front or back only shots, if you want to put blur the hide those hard texture s in the road, just blur in horizontally according to the wheels. Then a bit of hand blur with the blur tool between the blurred background and the road to uniform the transition. Also, when motion blurring, enlarge the canvas, to not get those weird textures near the edges of the picture. Only that and you would get a great shot.

Swiss – It doesn’t impress me one single bit. It is like a rewind to all your present work, and a great rewind. The blur is a bit dirt, and has a lot of weird textures, both on the road and on the buildings, the car edges are blurred and it looks a old picture of mine. Although the cleanup is good, it really looks like an old work of yours.

I ended up voting for Swiss because it is not so messed up has skyline, but, if
I was voting based also in the persons who done the shot (Swiss that make and made wonderful shots, and skyline who is a new comer in the 2.0) I would have to go for skyline.

I will not judge my battle, has I think that would be a try at swaying the poll. But I just want to add one thing:
LDS: most disappointed in this shot, to be honest. it's solid. it's squeaky clean. But I get no sense of "wow this is awesome" from it. I get "here's a shot of a Mitsu that's been edited and looks great". nothing particularly wrong, but it just doesn't stand out.

 This poll has such contradiction. I will only had following: Thanks for the comments.

You guys have made a great effort. Thank you all for entering in the Tournament.

As for the shots:

Tupacrulez: I see a great effort, no doubt. I don´t know how your skills are in PS...but with some more time you can produce cool 2.0 shots. If that show had some blur and a bit more cleaning...it would rock IMO 👍

Bram: IMO...the power shot of this round. It just screams style all over and fits the theme very well.
Great detail of the car "huge" wing, adds extra style to the shot. I also like the "cartoon" look...fancy in this type of shot...goes nice with the blur on the road. Well done Bram 👍

Speedemon08: That shot as a perfect camera for the theme. I see a bit of motion there, but...IMO...the glow ruins a bit the shot...at least around the car. Don´t get mad mate, just keep up and you can master some techniques in no time 👍

Skyline49: Another shot with potential. The car is quite sexy, and I quite like the dark mood. The only thing wrong...the blur. The sense of speed is there alright, but the direction...what happened?? Follow LDS tips mate, he knows what he is talking about 👍

Swiss "the" Legend: Man...that car is cool and powerful looking. But one thing first...I think you could have done better...no?? Your style now show us more advanced techniques...that in that shot are not fully shown...but what the hell...the overall look of the shot is just crazy!!!! Fantastic capture, show us very well the brutal looking of the Cuda, and another thing...New York goes very well with Muscle cars IMO. Nice work 👍

LDS: Well...IMO...this one is perfect. I know the "fancy" effects of 2.0 are missing a bit...but I just love simple shots, and this one its no exception. Realism is that shot screams IMO. So clean, I see no jaggies there...well done. LDS mate, just keep doing your magic 👍

Cambio: This shot has great style. Good thinking making it B&W. If LDS shot was not effective...I would vote for you mate, honest. You captured well the theme IMO, but only one can advance. Hope you have better luck next time 👍

NTX

Actually, whether or not anyone believes me, the blur is in the right direction of the road. The car was actually feinting out for the turn. It looked really wrong following the car.

Next time, I would do a radial blur.

Yeah, im learnig stuff all the time form viewing good 2.0 shots. and Lds, i do think your are right about the glow..... and i NTX i have changed the image size problem to future shots..... and in conclusion, i am voting for Bram and seeing if i can do another, better pic using shot

Just to ask everyone here, how does this blur look for 2.0? I cropped the pic because the
vanishing point had noise problems.

I didn't do much cleanup because there was no reason to.

I likee the first one alot more. it was just too friggin small. I really liked the first one. I got a sense of speed, and of speed in the rain from it.

LdS: you have no idea how hard i tried to get a curved blur in. I could visualize the picture exactly as I wanted it, i just couldn't get it to work. I wanted a curved blur, with one side of the "camera" lens wider than the other, to induce the motion of a curved panning shot. However, the car ghosted, I couldn't patch up the sides right to avoid it, and the radial blur i used in the distorted layer was too sharp for the wide, sloping corner of the shot. Alexwrc's miniguide is too...mini.
For a guy like me, with VERY limited PS experience, it was damned hard to understand. Also, i don't quite understand. you mention that i needed "perfect blue" colour on the car, yet the topic was "red cars"? And me adding smoke is pretty hideous. Not good. Plus, what is "venting"?

Skyline: the car isn't sharp enough.

The sky being in perfect blue, without that camera effect, that technically it calls vitning or venting (I can’t spell it correctly), and add some smoke because it looks like a drift.
I know that shot seems a bit too hard to get a good curve blur or even a zoom blur. You would have to enlarge too much the canvas. But thanks, you gave me an idea.

Also, skyline, your zoom blur is good, but you should have made that question in your gallery, don’t go off-topic.

Speedmon, I really prefer that one to the one you submitted, but again, try to enlarge even more the size of the picture. 800px is almost the minimum standard too full size pictures.

Speedemon08: Looking better, without the glow looks more realistic. And I see more speed there?! 👍 The fact of being not to soft really helps 👍

Skyline49: As for the blur...well done. The car is going in the good direction. 👍

I would assume it's on topic because we were talking about how my blur was wrong, right? Just to post to see if that was what you guys meant.

above the pic, there is an icon "more sizes". click on that for full size

we learn a new thing every day.
I normally click in the picture and it just pop the full size. I clicked and nothing happens, then now I realized there is a see more sizes button. Sorry about it :dunce:

WOW SWISS! holy!!!!
:D

The blur is going in the right direction. good job bro!

3M Bram's polishments.
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I wish I didn't go for a "safe" shot. It does look like an old piece from back in the day. I'm glad it made the impression it did however. I just wanted that "eye catching wow" kind of shot.
Bram's is the best shot here hands down imo.

@ LdS
- I thank you for your critique. You probably push me most around to here to "push the envelope" as it were. 👍
Your shot is pretty simple, but dang...the way you made that evo pop... nice highlights and cleaning.

Some great shots in this poll, for sure.

Though most of them look a bit too much like each other, very similar shots regardless of the theme. Still, nice work guys. 👍

Bram, that's a monster wing from hell!
