Photoshop question

i own photoshop v5.0 and v5.5 and v7.0...the first two are fine but when i install v7.0 on my laptop it causes crashes to occur with memory issues...

when v7 is installed on any desktop its fine and any other laptop its fine also....my laptop is a p111 1GHz....

is there some kind of memory patch that stops this happening?, it causes undefined generic errors in w98se and corruption of the execitive memory pool under win2000pro and XPpro....

the copies of Photoshop are originals before you ask...

cheers

no guys, i think your missing the point....your not talking to a novice.....i have 256 meg ram..

version 7 runs beautifully and very fast....the computer is more than capable of running this with large graphic files....

the problem is the computer locks up after 5 mins of use and i have to reboot....even when photoshop itself isnt actually running...when i am using office, or surfing gtplanet it gives me some ****e about 'corruption in the executive memory pool'...

uninstall it and put on version 5 or 5.5 and everythings great...its a very reliable computer...this laptop NEVER crashes even after 10 hours use....put version 7 on it and it cant last 5 mins....

any clues?

theres probably a software patch out there somewhere but i have had no luck @ adobe.com

this is a memory issue...i have even tried two different brand new 256 rimms...same ****e...

Let's see, what can I think of? Does it run fine on other computers? If you don't know, try it out on other computers. If it doesn't, perhaps it messes up a regestry setting, and might be worth getting the disk replaced with another one?

yep...its installed on 5 computers in total....workks fine on them...

some reason it doesnt work on mine....i'm stumped too...

thanks for the replies anyway folks..

1. Did the installation crash or does Photoshop crash after the installation?
2. Is it an 7.0 upgrade?
3. You mentioned W98, W2K, and XP, did you do 3 fresh installations of the OSs (If so, you have my condolences) or are you doing multiboot of 3 Windows OS (Really scratching my head on this one)?
4. Finally, are you using one of those systems where your system RAM is shared with your video card?
kideng

yes, the video ram is 8mb which it takes from the system ram...its a trident cyberblade A1 3D integrated video card...its a laptop so there is no way i can update the hardware :banghead:

the software has been installed with fresh installations on dual boot, triple boot, and single boot systems...you name it....its the full version of PS not an upgrade and didnt crash on installation....right now on my laptop i am using version 5 which is utter ****e compared to 7....i have to go into the office to used v7...whats the point of portable computing if you cant work from home??....

there must be a patch for this

8 MB?!?! Wow, totally old school :P

Tha could be the problem then. Since the video card shared the RAM from the same source the computer runs on, the memory required isn't there, so that's why the computer keeps on rebooting. Anyways, it's better to upgrade your laptop or just buy a really affordable one that is being sold now. Then, at least you know that PS7 would work.

Yeah, throw in a new memory stick!

this computer is only two years old and cost a fortune when bought...$2200USD...£1400

how important is VIDEO ram when processing static graphics...i know its important in video and animated graphics....

the system ram is 256M and i am sure that photoshops clipboard, scratch disks and histories tools etc uses system ram and not video ram....

..
