Obviously, if you look at the leader boards for lap times, you'll see there's a clear preference for a specific car for every track. Up until yesterday, I've been switching it up as well. I'm nowhere close to the aliens that are at the top of the leaderboards (TRL_doodle, man) however, I'd like to know that I'm driving the best car for the track. However, I end up driving cars that really don't thrill me at all.

I made a decision yesterday to switch to the Huracan and try to stick with it for a time being so that I can really learn the vehicle and because I love the way it looks. I've had the opportunity to drive a Superleggera and a few Ferraris in real life, but the Lambo style has always been my fav. I'm not sure if this really will make a difference or not, but what the hey, my replays look much better with a Lamborghini than a Megane. Lol

What's your take? What do you opt for? The car you like...or the car most effective for the track?

I play the game to enjoy the driving /racing experience.

When the game first came out I jumped on the bandwagon and switched to the GTR for a few races and got a win, fast lap and pole with it but although I was faster I just did not enjoy the racing no where near as much as I did driving my beloved Viper.

I switched back to my Viper and have avoided the bandwagon cars since. Sure sometimes I may finish 8th instead of 3rd by using a different car for a particular track but my enjoyment of beating the flavor of the week cars with my lowly Viper makes it all worth while.

I’ve stuck with the Mercedes since day 1, group 3 and 4. I suppose some would think I’m not really experiencing other cars but I get plenty of variety in the various one make events that crop up from time to time... Could’ve done without experiencing the i3 though..

I use cars that I like the most, they don't necessarily have be the fastest cars around but I like to stick with one car to try and get the best out of it. It feels more rewarding doing that rather than just choosing the best car all the time.

I've been using the Subaru's in Group 3 and 4 a lot lately. I'm not really sure how good they are compared to the rest of the cars in those groups but the WRX is one of my favorite cars irl so that makes me want to use it.

I think sticking with one car, at least at a time, feels more like a racing experience. Playing the meta is a little bit too gamey for me.

On the other hand, the guys that switch it up a lot experience many different cars that they otherwise might not have tried, and found a new ride they liked. So, there you go.

Right now, in gamer speak, my main is the Mustang, and my alt is the NSX.

I think for a new or learning racer that picking one car and learning that car it braking, acceleration, cornering and stability characteristics is important to learning and understanding what changes to their driving habits or style make them a faster racer rather than is it the car or the driver that is causing the improvement.

Something else as a driver is learning to race with and around other racers he needs to understand the limits of his own car and abilities to properly race in and around other cars.

Also track time and racing with other cars you learn where your car is strong and weak not only against the track but the competition and different cars you are racing with. Some cars are strong on the brakes entering a corner, others carry a lot of corner speed , some accelerate well out of the corner.

As a racer you have to understand the track layout, your own car and the traits of those you race against and then and only then can you really understand and formulate a plan of when to attack or when to defend or when to back off and give way.

Racing is like a chess game and every corner and every opponent is a strategy within itself.

The better you know and understand the strengths, weaknesses and limits of the car you race the more prepared you are for battle.

I was using the jag through the beta, Since the game came out I bought the porsche gr3 and its all i want to drive, gutted it doesn't come in gr4 format, so i just stick to gr3 races.
I've driven most of my cars in PSVR though, just to see what they are like inside. The chaparral vision gr.x is an odd experience lol

I stay with Ford for the manufacturer cup but switch between all natural aspirated v8 and v10 cars in lobbys. The Gr.3 Porsche i drove as well but it is not the same as a V8 under the Hood ;).

I've tried switching to the popular car for the track, but more often than not, I struggled quite a bit. It's too much for me to have to re-learn how to drive a circuit in a different car every single time - learning where the new breaking point is, when to lift off or get on the gas, what gear you need to be in, brake bias settings, etc. Also, I've found some cars to be unplayable on a DS4 (namely the Alfa 4C).

Needless to say I gave it up pretty quickly. It's not fun for me using the flavour of the day - maybe the super competitive guys don't mind, but I'll never be that good anyway. I much prefer sticking with a car or two - one that preferably suits my driving style - getting to know how it handles and building a relationship with it.

Clearly, these are not GTP users:

Funnily enough, I noticed most of the top drivers in Gr.4 races were using the GT-R so I made it my go to Gr.4 car. It felt great and I was able to win a bunch of races with it, but I think after the update which nerfed it a bit I noticed GT-Rs weren't the leading bunch of cars anymore and I felt it was harder to win races. So I looked for another car and tried the Viper Gr.4, interestingly enough, and found it handled much better and I could drive it about a second or two faster per lap. Currently it's still my go to Gr.4 car and is a joy to drive.

I do favor specific cars such as Corvettes just because they perform well and I like the way they drive. About switching it up, I do prefer certain drivetrains for certain types of tracks. On a tight and twisty track, an AWD car would be good for point & shoot driving, where an FR car on a twisty track might be prone to oversteer and spinning out. On a long fast track with sweepers, I might choose a FR car that carves through turns (so I can lay on the throttle without affecting directional stability or steering too much). MR layout is a two-edge sword. And I'm not sure why I would ever choose an FF car. Within each drivetrain type, there are certain cars that do it better than others. So I like to mix it up depending on the situation.

I stick with my Lexus for GT3, it's not the greatest at anything but it has no real weaknesses either. Great car.

Gr4 I hop around a bit, not settled on anything there, though I am starting to settle on the Subaru. Again it's not the best at anything, just really good at everything.

I pretty much only drive the RSR and am enjoying learning how to make it work on each track. I don’t feel the need to change up continually. There is so much to learn if you stick with a car for a while and a small but challenging range of tracks.

Ideally this is what I would like to do for most of the cars, with all the tracks.

Off throttle a FWD handles very well. Drive the scirocco. A well planted machine that only understeer when you give it too much throttle. That’s it’s main hang up too, it is given more power for BOP, so it will have a hard time putting the power down without TCS, which slows lap times. The best part about it though is it’s consistency and predictability. You can drive it to the limit and never spin. The only time you’ll taste dirt is if YOU get greedy.

Picked up a Scirocco on the Yamigawa Weekly when you could tune, and when the Scirocco and GTR were dominant. Had no idea how to get it around corners (theres a couple there I still don't!) and found it hard to believe it could be so fast, but a few laps and I was hooked, and have been using it pretty much ever since. It's also the only car I can drive with TC-0 as well...

The BoP changes brought the Sciroccos and GTRs back to the rest, but I still think its pretty nice (probably still the best straight line speed), it just takes a bit to drive something else after running the Scirocco for a day...

I started with the GT-R, because irl I drive an Infiniti, and that is the closest I can get to one in GTS. :) (the vision car doesn't count)

After the nerf I was way behind the pack, so I started playing around with the cars I had and found the Scirocco is my best car. I tried the Huracan and was okay after about 15 laps, grabbed the Scirocco and within 2 laps I was 4 seconds faster. So for now I am sticking with it, but as I win cars (or maybe buy, nothing else to do with the credits) I will try them out and see how they feel.

I've been sticking with cars lately as I feel it helps me get better consistency, I'm not there yet, certainly in Gr.3 but I'm getting better.

In Gr.4 the Viper is certainly decent enough on any combo, so if you are looking to stick with a car this is one of the better options. :)

I'm basically in the process of trying each car i have via time trial on the same track (no setting tweaks) to get my favourites and then I will mix and match between those. Have created my own livery's on the ones i like so I don't forget. Means I try them all and will then do the same with each new car I get to see if I like it.

At some point I might try different tracks but happy to learn tracks etc once I have cars I like.

I too was using the same car for a fair amount of time before deciding to try something else. I LOVE Porsche's so had been using that a fair bit, but more recently I've been using the McLaren in Gr.4 and BMW in GR.3. Definitely finding that some cars suit tracks over others, but trying to find a car that I get on with on the majority of tracks.

I like the Gr3 Viper for most of the races. However, I still use the VW Bug in some Gr3 races just because I think it is hilarious that the VW can compete fairly well with other power Gr3 cars. I really would like to use the Jaguar in Gr4 but can't seem to get a handle on how to drive it. I am considering an attempt to get a grip on the Gr3 Jaguar. I really like the look of the Jaguar and Viper and at some point will probably only use them just because I'm comfortable. I have had one win and one fast lap so I may just be content to finish 5,6,7 and have fun.

I started with mostly driving the Atenza, but I did bounce around to other cars.

Since the FIA cup though I've driven one manufacturer all week. Last week it was Mazda, this week it's Ferrari.
