I don't know about you, but I haven't seen to many pics of the Tommy Kaira ZZII. Fast Autos just loaded a few ZZII images onto their site. Here they are.

Once again I ask myself. Where is this car sold? Only in Japan? Has anyone seen it, and why haven't I heard of it anywhere outside of GT3. With its downforce and power, isn't it WAY better than 95% of supercars out there. Could someone please ask Car and Driver to test this thing so it could school all of the Ferrari's and Lamborghini's.

I mean 4WD, Twin Turbo 550hp engine and 2,180lb curb weight seems quite appealing to me! I KNOW it is better than just about every car sold in North America.

Come on Car and Driver would never get their hands on this. I would look towards the Sport Compact Car aspect to get a review. It also just looks like a prototype that never made it off the design block. I am probably 100% wrong on that. At least it looks like it was in development during that pic. xcellent ones indeed though.

I think it's still in prototype form at the moment, and they're looking to production in the next 12-18 months - there's very little info on it. The ZZI has only ever been produced in Japan in small numbers, I doubt the ZZII would be any different.

Why do the a/c controls look like something lifted from a Ford Explorer? I guess you've got to save weight wherever you can...cheap, plastic controls will do in this case!

But it looks nice, good to see that supercars don't have to weigh 3000+ lbs.

BTW, the ZZ II is also in GT2, and it kicks ass fair and square there as well, but it's not 4WD.

Also, is Tommy Kaira's logo a hummingbird?

you know that is actually a good point. Why is that. Possible internet search pending here. That is ogf course I get the chance at work today.

i thought that read in the scrolling stuff at the bottom of the screen in the GT3 dealership that it was sold in europe only?? maybe i'm wrong. someone else might reat it and find out. for sure. also i thought that i saw some place that Autobacs were the developers of this carand it is called the RS-01?

and yes it is a humming bird

Thank you for this find.
Its going into my collection of car pictures along with the Import thread. ;) :D

That looks like the Garyia, I thought that had something to do with Saleen (Because it is called the ASL Garyia).

That car is in GT Concept 2002 Tokyo Geneva, it is a lightweight mid engined car simmilar to the elise.

I have actually seen a Tommikara ZZS (Not ZZII) on the street, but that was because they were built in England for a short time.

because the car has adjustable downforce (maybe in eral life, not sure), do you know how awesome a 1000hp+ version would be? it wouldnt only be usable as a drag car becuase of the aerodynamics and downforce. jesus that would be one quick car. The rb26 is easily modded also. I really dont know if there is any production car on the planet that could keep up with it. maybe the clk gtr or r390 gtr1 road cars, but still, maybe not.

ASL stands for Autobacs Sportscar Laboratory. it has nothing to do with Saleen.

Looks more like a McLaren to me...

Thank you very much for posting those pictures. I thought the car was nice, but nothing special, judging from GT3. But two things: I didn't know it was powered by the RB26, and I didn't know it was AWD (is it the Skyline's ATTESSA system?). And I really didn't know how fricken beautiful the thing was!

Nice pics! 👍

One question -

The things that appear to be spring/damper assemblies...well, is that what they are? I've seen things like that on other exotic cars...I assume it's to keep engine motion to a minimum.....?

(トミーカイラ = TK)

I suppose the translator didn't have "Tommy Kaira" in it's lexicon.(And since when were Japanese kana part of Verdana?)

If they began production in April 2000, there must be some ZZII's out there, somewhere. Even if I had to mail all supercar owners, I'll find one, someday.

I read some time ago that ASL bought the rights for the ZZ2 model and made a concept called ASL Garaia on the same base.

I believe the reason why the springs and dampers are mounted that way is because the ZZ-II is using a pushrod type suspension setup like the one used on the Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans car, and the new Porsche Carrera GT. I have an illustration in a magazine of the suspension on the Carrera GT, but I don't have a scanner and I'm having trouble finding pics of the suspension online. It's hard to describe, it's easier to just look at the pic to see how it works, it's pretty simple though...
