Hey all!
I was just finishing the Gr.4 10 lap daily @ Yamagiwa in my Aston Martin Vantage, and had probably my most fun race so far. I qualified in 9th out of 18 drivers, and from start to finish the race was super clean and competitive, and most drivers finished with a blue SR rating. However, I ran into a little problem, that can have dramatic consequences, but should be (I think) easy to fix for PD.
Ok, so the race was going well, I had worked my way up to 6th place when I pit in end of lap 5/10. My tires were wearing a bit and I figured it should be good to get the pitstop over with at the halfway point. By mistake, I accidentally select not to change my tires. I instantly press the circle button, expecting to be able to go back a step and choose my tires, but it was too late. There is no way to revert to tire selection. So I just fueled up and went back out there. Obviously I couldn't afford doing another pitstop, so I just kept racing, and was pretty safely in 6th place. However, in the last 2-3 laps, my tires were really worn and I was putting up laps 2-3sec slower then my race pace. It was becoming increasingly hard to drive consistently and I was really fighting over control of my car,
I had a good gap from 7th place, ca. 10sec if I remember correctly, entering the final lap, so I was pretty certain I would manage to hold my position. But that last lap was hell. Every left turn was a struggle since my right front tire was completely worn out, and eventually I lost my car off track in the hairpin, and lost 6th place. I barely kept 7th place, and if not for a small driver error from the guy behind me, I would've lost 7th place as well. Fortunately for me, the guy had a 4sec penalty on him, so I kept my 6th place
. Also, finishing highest of DR C drivers, so not really complaining about the results.
However, If I had gotten a fresh set of tires in my pitstop, I would've been very safe in my 6th place, and possibly even competing for 5th place (maybe).
The race was super fun, and trying to conserve my tires but still put up decent laps was quite a challenge in itself, and finishing 6th was all good, gaining 3 positions. I even advance from SR B to SR A, and am now just a tiny fraction away from DR B as well, so overall really happy with the race. But I feel like there should be a window in the pitstop to revert back to tire selection in cases like this.
I know the easy answer is to not mess it up
. But it would be a good thing to be able to do
. Fortunately I got away without very dramatic consequences this time.
Any input? Anyone have similar experience?
For fun, this is my tire status after the race

Oh, and if anyone here is a driver from the race, thanks for a awesome, clean race!

Happy racing guys, see you on the track!
