Like the title says I'm planning on racing the 24 hours of Le Mans on GT4, after a little inspiration from the latest top gear episode. It will be just my friend and I, racing non-stop for the 24 hours. My question is, what do I need in preparation for this race?

We will be using the Bentley Speed 8, along with my G25. What tires would you suggest, and what should I look out for in my setup? Things like, should I adjust the suspension considering that the G25 wants to shake my arms off on the back stretch.

As for supplies, there will be plenty of mountain dew for the day and night, but i've been thinking that water would be better for the early hours of the race. Advil is a must, due to the strain the tv is going to put on our vision. Food has been troubling me but i've been thinking carbohydrates before he race, and as little as possible during.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To make sure you don't end needing glasses after the race I'd at least get B-spec on the night shift, you may feel the same way after 12hrs of racing  Make sure that if you are up late and you're taking caffein drink water too or you will dehyrdrate, and I don't think food will matter too much, so long as it aint take-away. As for the car, pick the hardest tyres you can still comfortably win on and go with it, if other people suggest a setup that's fine. I wanna see a race report of this one after it's done over at race reports 👍

Drink Seltzer water... Has awesome taste (rasbarry or Black cheery) but healthyer than water (go figure?)

I'd also say that the shaking is going to be a problem, Comfort is a must! uhm... and for food. Buy like, 20 of those damn microwave meals... that way, your never to far away from your friend losing your 100 second lead you accumiliated.

I'm a bit worried about my friend but I'm going to be training him a few days before the race. He's never played Gran Turismo, nor used a G25, but he is an avid racing game player so i'm not too worried. I myself will have to train a bit as well to learn the track, and what gear I need to be in to be comfortable, along with how it will handle with brand new and worn out tires.

Comfort is a good thing to consider. I have a good setup but I'm lacking in chair comfort. I will have to go out to a junk yard, get a car seat, and mount the sliders on wood. I definately need the sliders because I'm 5'7" and he's a bit over 6'.

As for a race report, that will be a must. I'm hoping my friend has a camera and a bunch of tapes so I can tape us throughout the entire race. It will be funny to see our faces after that many hours of driving.

I think the 3 hour shifts will work out without having to use the B-spec driver. Hell, If I have to, I'll race a bit longer than three hours if it means I don't have to use the B-spec. In 3 hours you can grab something to eat/drink and get a bit of sleep so I think it will work out well.

Thanks for the advice, and any more would again be greatly appreciated.

Another thing to consider, is instead of balancing your R8 out. Maybe see if you can find a faster time by adding more accel. Or More Top end speed. Because you have abit of both throught Le Mans. Maybe you can overtake the other?

Now that I talked to my mom, I guess she was too retarded to assume someone would have to be over the house to do this. Because, you know, best friends are rapists and can't be trusted

So for now, this wont be happening :banghead:

lmfao my mom sais that If whoevers over gets hurt, and no one's home, the world will end...

YET! I'm a trained lifeguard and Certified in CPR and First Aid, parents know abs. nothing!

Bad luck mate, can you do it at his place though? Just take your gear and your chair from car (I've always wanted car furniture myself) and do it there.

As a veteran of no less than 5 full 24 hour A-spec races at Sarthe, and having claimed 200 A-spec points in both I & II (check out the race reports forum for more details or clicky the light blue enduro link in my signature :D) I can vouch for the fact that you can run RM front tyres and RH rears on most LM cars and not have to worry about tyre wear. I ran a used (black) Toyota GT-One Race Car on RSH tyres all round, and could easily have got 12 - 14 laps out of a set, however, the major concern at Le Mans isn't tyre wear, but fuel consumption! The Toyota would get 9 laps per tank of fuel (10 if I got lucky and was able to draft a car for at least half a lap per session) so you'll find that you'll run out of petrol before your tyres wear out! The Bentley Speed 8 is pretty dainty on it's tyres too, and you'll find the rears wear before the fronts, especially if you drive with the driving aids turned off like I do, but keep a close eye on the fuel gauge! :scared:
Don't be afraid to pause the game and walk away for a while, my PS2 was left on for 543 hours (23 days) during this race once, so there's no need to go at it all in one session! (Overheating PS2 is a myth!) As a safeguard though I find putting a Post-It note with "DO NOT TOUCH!" over the power button helps, and when you pause, click down to the screen settings bar, so that if anyone inadvertently touches the controller, then only enter the screen setting menu, rather than continuing back into the race!

If it isn't possible at all, you're gonna have to pretend B-Spec Bob is your friend.

It's the way I do it.

I didn't mean being able to do a 24 hour race. I meant saying his friend is an avid racing gamer who's never played GT.

My question is, what do I need in preparation for this race?

In team, me and other 4 friends, we've done this race ~6 months ago ..
with the black 787B ..only OIL change and refresh!

You need'nt to improve the power , only change oil,
The car has to be without Roll cage!

make some trials to fix your pit strategy ..its important!

Are you telling me, your mom won't allow one of your friends to spend the night at your house ?..

My parents couldn't wait for me to get old enough to kick me out every once in a while - of course, that blade cuts both ways which they knew...

I'm going to ask if she'll let me go over his house. If not, she said some time in January when she's home because, again, he cant be trusted .

After playing today though, I'm going to need a lot more practice. I did four laps and they were absolutely horrible imo. With that, I know my friend is going to need tons more practice as well. I'm going to see if he can come over for a few hours one day over Christmas break so I can see how much more practice he needs.

Well, in my not so smart opinion, if you got a car turning 250-270 down the back stretch, all you need is a decent time in the rest of the course and you will do fine.

On your friend, just tell him to watch out for understeer! :scared::scared:

I first saw this thread and was thinking it was going to be you VERSUS your friend for 24 hours. IMO, thats officially crazy. lol.

Anyways, good luck to this. I could see where your mom would worry if you were of opposite genders, but I mean, same gender, no need to worry.

when you get a bit bored, switch to B-Spec, pull out the controller, and put like a cover (maybe a lid) that protects the reset button from being accidentally pressed.

play for 2 hours, Bspec the next pitstop, and return after the next pitstop, cause you are going to need to rest those eyes from overstraining.

Mate, if they did that, 24hrs straight vs eachother all I'd ask is one question.........

Where's their crack pipe?? :P

Mafs!!

I did vs my cousin once in an enduro at High Speed Ring, it came down to the last lap..........sort of. You see he had a faster car and I kept stopping on track every once in a while to let him catch up otherwise you'd be racing some time without competition. Towards the end he was getting better though and I didn't need to stop no more, just drive good so my slower car could keep up.:scared:

Its the ultimate test of craziness.

As for the pipe, they should have looked into that before hand. THEIR LOSS!

That's a team of 5, I guess.

Four seems like the comfortable minimum, although you might be able to get away with 3.

It would seem that, at all times, you want the driver and one other person who must stay awake. (So the extra person can wake another person if they are sleeping and their shift is going to start soon).

With 2 people, assuming you want to avoid pausing the game, the driver might need to wake the other person up, which could be awkward.

And there's chassis flex which sets in after about three hours, changing the handling, especially on the straights. (Perhaps start with a worn-out car, to avoid that; i.e. better to have predictable bad-handling than unpredictable bad-handling).

Yes, you need to be able to rattle off lots of reliable laps. The leading AI at the Sarthe enduros don't give you any leeway for frequent serious errors.
