play online without day 1 patch?

hi guys, i just bought gt6 today but havent had time to play it much.
wanted to know if you can play online without updating to 1.01 patch.
i use my phone as a hotspot and it doesnt allow me to download patches.(tried this for gt5 patch and it used all my data and kept failing)
if i cant guess i have to go to a friend to update it
