For the NASCAR special events set the brake balance to 0/0 with the RA menu. ASM is slowing you down in the corners and dropping the BB limits that. 👍

EDIT: And for your other question about seasonals; Yes you need all golds to win the ticket/car.

Another thing would be to try and do the opposite. See how long you can last without opening a gift. You have to stop once you have to do the same race over again or can't get the car immediately from the UCD.

It's not possible to finish GT5 without buying many cars. You'll need the right one for the right event.
