Playseat Challenge - A bit of info and some images

Hi guys,

I currently use a modified GamePod GT2 cockpit for all of my racing and an Xlerator Wheel Stand combined with my couch for multiplayer when company is over. Back in June there was some footage from E3 featuring the new Playseat Evolution model; a much more compact and collapsible cockpit for the entry level racer, or those of us with limited space. Based on the video which can be found here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWA4bA8nZfw, I was impressed and it looked like a perfect replacement for my Xlerator. I've been eagerly waiting for a release date and price point for the past five months but there has been virtually zero information about the new model until just recently.

A friend of mine who is also interested in the Challenge contacted the company last month inquiring about its release, and asked if the "Fall release" window was still a possibility. Here is the reply that he received from Playseat:

"Thanks for contacting us! while it was our full intention to release the Challenge this year, we've been experiencing development delays w/ our factories which have slowed the release - at this point, we anticipate launch by Jan/Feb 2013, but will make an announcement thru out Twitter/Facebook accounts should we be able to deliver sooner

our apologies again for the delay, it will be worth the wait - thanks for choosing Playseat!"

I don't have a Facebook account but I checked the public page and it looks like they posted an update about the Challenge on November 2nd confirming the production delays, along with one of the first images of the seat.

After doing some research of my own I discovered a product listing for the Challenge on a Scandinavian website called Sune Sport & Games. I was able to use the Google Translate Web viewer to read the page found four additional images and some information about the seat.

If you'd like to see the site for yourself, follow this link: http://www.google.com/translate?hl=...ge=product_info&cPath=7_8_11&products_id=2820

Based on the statements made by Playseat in their email reply and Facebook post, I'd assume that the December 24th release date is rather loose, but I suppose it could hold some merit in the European market.

Anyways, I just thought I'd share in case any of you have also been awaiting information about the seat, or haven't already seen/heard of it. If the price and ergonomics are right, I think it will be far superior to most of the current wheel stands in terms of immersion and utility. Nothing compares to a proper cockpit, but its nice to see that designers are working to blur the lines between realism and practicality.

Customer service emailed me that it will not support a t500rs. When i asked on facebook, they say it supports all wheels.

I'd be surprised if that wheel deck supports the T500RS. I'd think that the weight of it might tip the whole rig over even if it has a kickstand for support. It's a shame they're giving mixed responses though.

Just had a look at the Scandanavien site and saw the price in Swedish Krona and did a conversion $326.816 AUD (Australian) bit rich for a beach chair with some brackets!

This is what it reminds me of:

About $50 buck at most camp stores, just my opinion don't want to upset any one :)

But really what weight would that hold? I am 6'6" and 130+ KG and I don't think I would be be too trusting of it, it doesn't look real strong.

According to Playseats FB page this is being released this month, anyone heard any different?, the main website still says comming soon.

This would be pefect for me as the missus will not budge on letting me get a full rig setup, untill we move house.
