Playseat Evolution Question

Hi, I'm considering buying a Playseat Evolution this Christmas, but I noticed that it has a metal support that sits right in front of the driver. How annoying is the post in the middle? Does it require impede the driver's ability to use the clutch or brake pedal? Will it be impossible to use the clutch and use right foot braking concurrently? Thanks to anyone who responds and sorry for asking so many questions! :)

EDIT: Btw, it'll be used with a G27

The center post will definately interfere with right foot braking. I modified mine to move the center post closer to the driver by cutting and the diagonal piece that holds the wheel platform shorter and rewelding. It made it possible but still combersome to use right food braking which is essential if your are going to use a manual clutch for shifting. Out of the box it won't work. I just sold my Evolution and bought the newer "Forza" version with the post coming out of the seat and even that is not ideal. For me it doesn't matter because after trying to change my driving from left foot braking and automatic clutch I decided that it was just too difficult to teach my other foot to brake and heel and toe downshifts are an art that I will never develop. But they are essential if you are going to use manual clutch. I will accept the penalty for using the automatic clutch and hope that the unrealistic penalty is removed in future versions.

Wow, well that was a little disappointing, but I really appreciate your honesty. I'm planning on getting a cockpit for the specific reason of learning to how to drive a manual the "proper way" (via using clutch, H-shift, and right-foot braking), so I guess I'll look into alternatives.

I have the evo and you can offset the pedals on the pedal base so the center post isnt a problem. The problem is then its kinda difficult for left foot braking. I recomend you also get the seat slider it makes the seat much better, for getting the center post away from the pedals and getting in and out of the seat. Ive had my seat a little over a year and love it. Hope that helps and good luck in your decision.

Or you could get the "GT style" playseat, the center pole dosn`t interfere at all! :)

If you're using the G27, the Playseat Evo is a great option since it was designed to be hard mounted (4 bolts for pedals, 2 for shifter, and 2 for the wheel that all come with the playseat) and you will want that especially for the pedals. The center post doesn't bother me since I right-foot brake and have the pedal plate offset right, but if you're considering getting into F1 and competitive racing, you may want to consider another seat. I play casually and drift more often, and my G27 w/playseat has served me well. The GT edition is nice however I tried it here in Akihabara and personally I feel the wheel is too wobbly compared to the Evo edition that has no wobble at all. But then again, you have free moving legs. You should find some way to test it before you buy. It really boils down to user-preference. Check out insidesimracing.tv. You may find them helpful in deciding what best suits you.

Check out you tube type in playseat and you'll see some videos. They should give you a good idea.

I would post a link but can't do it from my phone.

Let me revise what I said somewhat. In order to drive the fastest, you need to be able to not only right foot brake but also left foot brake at times. If you move the pedals to the right to allow right foot braking you can never left foot brake. If you set it up so you can left foot brake you can't never right foot brake.

What he said. I bought a playseat Evo when I wasn't aware of the alternatives. It's ok and better than a stand or table and chair, but in hindsight I would have spent more up front and done more research and bought a better more sturdy one.

Thanks for all of the info, guys! Although I do like the "GT style" Playseat, I've decided to go with the Obutto Ozone. It seems like an overall better rig than the Playseat, and I know I wouldn't have any problems with right-foot braking.

Plus the Ozone comes with a shifter adapter, keyboard tray, and monitor mount standard.
