Hey folks with different strokes,:ill:👍

I have been FR, MR, RR, xR:dopey: for well over a year now, and always dreaded the FF sensation this game offered;

- For to me they always felt like a Schnauzer trying to escape your foot , playfully held above its head , on a buffed hardwood floor, after he just finished drinking a bowl of warm beer.

I decided to select this car, for reasons that I know IRL, this car can dart and get to speed like no tomorrow, and handle itself tightly well.

To my surprise, it handled as I expected, on the Nordschleife. Quick to go straight, but my drunk Schnauzer is driving it.

What can I do, to get better grip from it's 505pp Fully upgraded Turbocharged 400HP engine?:scared:

I tried adding more weight onto its front, than it's already 60/40 repartition to try to slam the engine to the ground for grip, but it's peaking HP line slips the tires at it's peak power band, and I havent spent much time on it, perhaps 3 incompleted sad laps, trying stiff, soft, this and that, toe, no toe, but the FF feels like ...FFFFF and I would like this car to handle better... with speed, if possible.

I tried narrowing the gear ratios, but I feel they are slipping the RS tires, perhaps regardless of ratios, with this crazy engine installed, (I want max speed on the climbs!!)

thoughts?

sorry, I don't have the setup here, but I know I fully tuned it, without chassis re-enforcement.

It tops at 285 km'hr though :))

My goal is to have it compete @ 505pp, if possible, to complete a Nur Lap in 6:50s range, but I fear this may be not possible with a FF, unless I am proven wrong! Perhaps it needs a lightweight Peugot to do it right.

6:50s possible at 505pp with Elise 111R, NSX-R, Honda S2000 variants.

p.s , it's not my Schnauzer, it's my neighbours.

Try setting the diff at 5/20-30/5, should help it. I think. I haven't driven a Prelude in GT5 though...

And if Xdesperado67 or Krenkme reads this, Prelude Tuner Warz anyone? :D

Edit: and I think you'd get the car to play ball better if the ballast was at the back, not the front.

The LSD is a good place to start, like Onboy said, or try 12/18/7 .

Maybe for the next one, I'm not home and still need to work on my MR kie cars :dopey:

Should check out the following thread for the FF Challenge there.

Wallbanger's Ring Masters Challenge

The SRT4 is the only FF that's been used successfully for the challenge. However from comments made and times posted for other FFs I'm guessing that with a top notch tune and real good driving a 6:50 time for your prelude should be doable.

If people want to have a prelude tuning battle feel free to post it in the Tuning Wars thread, that's what its there for.:D

Ok, I've just taken my '96 Type S out, it's got 434hp and on SS tyres it's about the maddest FF I've driven bar the obvious SRT4. I think this will made for quite a good Tuner war topic. :D

My 491pp Trial Celica does a 6:45-6:54 around Nordschleife (may have a number twist => my 9second-Range).
My LSD: 5/9/5

Suspension:
Ride height: -6/-4
Springs: 9.0/10.5
Damper Extension: 6/7
Damper Compression: 5/6
ARB: 4/5
Camber: 2.4/2.9
Toe: -0.22/-0.20

Brake-Bal: 5/4
(No Aids except ABS=1)

Try it the Trial is for me the best FF car.
Try the tune for the Prelude, me think it should work too.
Maybe detune the Power, because for me a FF Car over a certain amount of power has to fight for Traction/Grip all the Time.
Maybe try for a higher Gear => less wheelspin because the power would be there.

Hey Lambob, great choice of car. I've seen this pop up a few times now in Seasonal races and if it gets clean air at the front of the pack, it can be hard to catch.

Apart from the aforementioned diff settings, the biggest thing I've seen with successful FWD cars is to stiffen the front end up and leave the rear loose. You should have a look at the long wheelbase FWD cars in RKM's garage, the Mazda Atenza and the recent Accord Type-R are good examples. I picked up an Acura CL the other day, drives superbly out of the box, but I went ahead and stiffened the front and loosened the rear and it drives better for it (runs 08:30s of CS tyres with only Stage 3 Engine)...

Yea, you want extremely stiff/high front spring rates and very, very low rear spring rates. You also want some negative front/rear toe and…something else which I've forgotten.

^Soft front and stiff rear anti-roll bars will be the bit you forgot there.

The springs don't work unless you do that bit.

Ah, right. You know me, new to tuning and all. Well, I did learn a bit of tuning from you, so there's something else I've learnt today.

Note to self: Stiff front and soft rear Spring Rates will not work without soft front ARB and hard rear ones on FF cars.

If you are tuning for a specific pp level you should put the ballast at the back rather than the front if you want to improve the handling ( as Onboy mentioned)

Hmm, that Prelude SiR turned out pretty nicely for what it is. And I haven't even finished tinkering with the transmission nor touched the ballast yet. :odd: Could it be that this is one of the very few good FF Hondas?

Edit: Is there any benchmark times that I should attempt to beat?

In a moment. I will do couple little tweaks more.. but I do believe that the car will work better as NA than turbo.

It might not be enough. :odd: After all, it's mere FF, trying to run against the best possible FR/MR platforms. But, who knows.. I'm now testing it on Nurb to see how it will do. 6'50 eh? That's a tall order.. Especially for FF.

Even if you poke at the driving devil that is MFT Stig?

Hmm.. He knows Nurb almost as well as his own car.. He might be able to get to sub 7 minute laps..

Okay, I'm setting the car for share, give it a shot. I honestly don't believe that Prelude has what it takes to get to 6'50s on nurb.. Well, not at least when I'm driving. All I did was add turbo, switch back to stock exhaust and tweaked the LSD and transmission a bit. The car felt far better as NA, but it's not bad as turbo either.

So, Onboy.. how was it.. or are you going to forget this one like you did with the 147 GTA? :irked: Yes, I still remember it..

Hey, I didn't forget the GTA. I just didn't give feedback on it. :P

Edit: I did check the settings though, what does having the diff set at 15/40/5 (or whatever it was) do for the car's handling? I've always had my FF diffs at 5/20-35/5-10 and want to try something different.
