I'm making another Active Desktop, but this time I'm looking for some more advanced features. For the sake of future simplicity and being able to control images remotely I want to have everything be modular - even drop shadows (as an example). This lead me to use PNG. Unfortunately PNG doesn't have full support in IE, and therefore doesn't have full support in Active Desktop.

If you open it in IE (Windows) you'll notice the drop shadow has a gray background. In nearly every other browser it has full alpha channel support. BLAST YOU MICROSOFT!
I've found two pages that talk about work arounds.
http://people.brandeis.edu/~peelle/png/
http://redvip.homelinux.net/varios/explorer-png-en.html
Both give the same (or similar) methods which appear to work in the browser at least. I need to check them in Active Desktop.
Next question: I am completely unfamiliar with Flash. How easy would it be to have flash pull in images from a folder and load them with a drop shadow on a textured background? I don't want to make the processing and bandwidth loads be too high, as this could become popular.
Fun stuff. Just wish it worked ...
