It happened for me with the McLaren F1 and the 18 mil Porsche. I liked it in GT Sport, and saw a some documentaries about it which made me love the car more. But I'm not going to play the game that long (20 hours+ or whatever the figure is after patch 1.07) to 18 million credits just for one car, period. And dishing out 180 euros in MTX (or any amount of euros for that matter) for a digital car is not my idea of fun either.
Yamauchi's aim is to make the cars have more value for the players:
P.S. I know the economy/MTX is not the only problem with this game.

Instead, I notice that I'm rationalizing this car to be of less value, something along the lines of: "this car isn't that special anyway" to account for me not purchasing it. Which goes directly against what Yamauchi wants us to think. It takes the fun of the game away a bit, mentally."the price of a car is an important factor in conveying its value and rarity"
