I often create lobbies when I find the time to race, and I struggle with deciding how to start. It's usually dictated by the other lobby settings, like number of laps and whether I am going with fastest first, or some kind of reverse grid...or simply how I'm feeling that day. I know there are different intermittent glitches with both choices, I'm just wondering what the overall preference is, while taking these glitches into consideration.

So should it be rolling or standing? Feel free to elaborate on why your choice is what it is.

Personally I like standing starts, but I get a lot of requests for rolling because it can really mess up your race if someone in front of you isn't paying attention or if they get "stuck."

Standing for the operchanceity to blast by folks ahead of you who screwed up the start. Flip side is when yi timed it wrong you get left for dead. Made the start a very exciting run to the first corner. Do miss that.

Rolling, because nailing a launch without TCS is almost impossible for me if I'm driving anything that's not 4WD(which is somewhere around 95% of my time playing the game)

I'm being facetious. Everyone thinks the 1st corner settles the race but that's assuming you're in a Mercedes F1 car (typically).
Haha! I mean if you get punted off the track on that first turn you can kiss a podium goodbye.

I like standing starts better as long as all cars have the same drive-wheels. In Gr.4 rolling starts are a must.

The votes are pretty close, I didn’t expect that. Glad to know I’m not alone in preferring standing starts.

I like both but it all depends on how I'm running the lobby. If I have full damage on then standing starts become a nightmare because there is always a few who just can't grasp the fact you can't go full on into turn one. This always ends up with multiple players getting major damage and demanding a restart. So I just do rolling starts now when the damage settings are on.

All other races I do standing starts when the I can but it's still a mess most of the time. So my vote is the don't care option. I do care but I don't have the choice to select both as equal.

So, the other day I was in a lobby race (somebody else's lobby) and I think it was almost full, 14 or 15 people, and I was starting 7th, at Dragontrail Seaside I think.

By the time the race had started for the first 7 of us, the back half of the pack was still in auto-drive and we all gained about 10-15 seconds on them. By the time we hit turn1 I think they hadn't even crossed the start line yet. Not a single one of them ever caught up, as the first 7 of us were pretty fast. I've seen this glitch before but never quite this bad.

I'd still rather navigate my way through a crappy standing start then have to deal with that. For what it's worth, those guys back there had a good race too, just no chance of catching us. It was almost like they were in their own separate race.

Neither of them are great until they fix the lobby bugs. Three serious ones off the top of my head:
1) cars randomly are prevented from moving at race start with standing starts
2) cars randomly are stuck in auto drive with rolling starts
3) cars get desynced, where some cars can't see each other

Have there ever been standing starts in Daily races? I don't race in Dailies often but all of them have been rolling for me.

There has been a handful, only in one-make races that I've noticed though. Rolling is indeed far more common.

Anything is good tbh but rolling is much fairer and cleaner usually

Grid starts are often chaos and you can only seem to get a good start with traction control
If you start without you may aswell be in reverse it seems

Your poll is working a lot better than mine so no worries ;)

The thing is there is the low speed physics of the game which Scaff thoroughly explained. I wanted to use this in my thread but it never went through. So there are more reasons why a rolling start seems better at the moment.

In lobbies I almost always use standing starts however. Dont mind a little chaos !

Standing starts always involves someone in a 4wd who qualifies seconds off the pace zooming up to the front of the pack and then log jams the entire race track. I'm talking to all of you in a N class or Gr.4 Subbie.

Even with that said, I like standing starts. Even with no TC. I also don't mind the chaos (excitement) that follows in turn 1.

It's funny, I feel the same way about the chaos. It's almost like a fun challenge to see if you can make it through the standing start, and then challenge #2 as you approach T1.

I feel like most people agree that rolling starts are safer, cleaner and typically more reliable, but those of us who prefer standing starts are chasing the small possibility that it might go well, because when it does it's pretty awesome and more rewarding than any rolling start ever could be. I'm like a standing start addict who keeps looking for that fix, but rarely finds it. I'll keep trying tho!

The best is when you start last, and end up in 1st place after 1/2 a lap. I managed this in a nearly full lobby. After losing the drag race at the start I watched a spectacular event unfold in front of me involving 14 other cars going in every conceivable direction except the racing line through the 1st 5 turns and how I made it through was nothing short of a miracle. I was also awarded the Medal of Valor for my bravery. I never get tired of watching that replay.

In my lobbies standing starts always go well because of the car choices we make. Just brilliant !

Standing starts when I‘m in an AWD car, rolling starts when not

tbh I don‘t really care, both of them got pros and cons :D
