How Do You Feel About GT5?

I love & hate Gran Turismo at the same time; some parts of this game are sheer genius, while others are mind numbingly ridiculous. Someone once said that 'there is a very fine line between clever & stupid', I think GT5 straddles that line perfectly with one foot in each camp!

How do you feel? Do you love GT5? Hate GT5? Or like me are you ambivalent towards GT5?

Love it, won't get bored driving the 1000+ cars on various tracks even when alone, I just love driving both in game and in real life.
 
1000+ cars, track generator, endless entertainment.

It's lasted me longer than any other game. Love it.

This thread makes me feel like it's November 2010 again :/

Now that people have lived with the game for almost 2 years, we should get a more rounded picture of the general feeling towards this title in the community. A lot of the negative comments shorty after release in Nov 2010 were merely knee jerk reactions, first impressions etc.

Besides, this is not a negative poll/thread, as it also gives people like you who love the game to cast your vote too.

Voted 'Love It'.

Unlike a lot of people here, I don't get to play all that often, not seriously at least. Just reached level 40 last week, but have done hardly any in-game A-Spec or Special Events.

Yes there are some ridiculous things about it, but when I do get a chance to play with my wheel it's still great. For me the longevity has been due to easy money and access to all the cars: I hit a wall in GT4 where I couldn't compete without getting a race car and to do that needed grinding - kind of stopped playing then.

I like all the odballs and classics in the game, then I came across Car of the Week here on GTP, and have been driving some things I probably never would. It's made it more interesting, and you can have a bit of fun.
 
I used to be ambivalent towards GT5, but now I just don't like it anymore. After getting FM4 and a Fanatec, I haven't played in months. GT5 had a lot of potential but it's just a missed opportunity in my opinion.
 
Still love it.

If I hated it, I don't think I would pop over to GTPlanet to look at the Gran Turismo Shrine with black lights and somber "Nissan Dealership Music" while I ran a Caterham Fireblade over my arms to revel in what GT used to mean to me.
 
I'm mixed because the game is mixed. PD did a good job with the physics, for a console racer, the Premium cars look great, the new track models look great, and day/night looks great. Unfortunately, on the other hand you have the fact that the other 80% of the cars look bad, that GT5 has half as many current-gen car models as Forza, that the car list lives in the past (no Audi R15 or R18, as examples), many tracks like Trial Mountain look like crap and some like Laguna Seca are looking dated (not to mention green versus the real track's brown), the lack of features beyond the minimum requirements of a racing game, and adding "features" like B-Spec or oil changes which absolutely suck. I can make all sorts if Course Maker tracks but can't practically share them, for crying out loud. Oh, and they wasted the Top Gear license and don't understand the appeal of Top Gear.
 
Used to like it but after watching some Forza videos seeing what you can do on it and playing Forza 4, GT5 just didn't seem as good anymore. For anyone complaining that I'm comparing GT5 to Forza, don't even bother replying. The fact is fact, PD has a lot to learn from T10, and vice versa, but it's a fact. GT5 needs a big update and a lot more good DLC.

Not going to quote your post, but I do have an issue with something you said. 80% of the cars look bad?
I didn’t buy GT5 to take pictures of cars, I bought it to race cars.

To be honest when I’m on the track with another car, I don’t care if the details on its headlights are correct or if I can see the writing on its brake calipers.

That to me is just kind of a bonus.

Quite frankly if I didn’t know which cars were or were not premium, just sitting at the starting line waiting for the race to start, I would never be able to tell difference.

BTW: I love GT5
 
Ambivalent.

I've been a GT fan since the GT1 days. Ever since then I've been looking forward to every GT game that will come out. I usually let pass a few flaws in a game, but my "rant list" for GT5 is just too long.

- Not a lot of variations in cars (needs more non-Japan cars)
- too many Miata's (if they're gonna include export models of the same vehicle, then they should at most include only the top-of-the-line models. OR if they are gonna include the basic models, at least don't include the export models which make for ambiguity.)
- too few A-Spec and B-Spec Events
- different physics for offline and online
- inconsistent downforce settings, mostly evident in many supercars (c'mon, a Cadillac CIEN which is a concept car gets "adjustable front downforce" while a Ferrari Enzo gets only 2 units of downforce at front? :irked:) . Also, we get to fit canards to some Premium cars but they don't get downforce for it? (Ford GT for example, which is one of Kaz's favorite cars):irked:


...among many others. But still, I play it every day. :)
 
Still playing almost every day after 2 years, no other game has kept my interest that long. There is just too much you CAN do if you what to. Track generator, online, seasonals or just matching cars and comparing at same PP.
It is what you make of it, warts and all. Therefore, I Love it still. :dopey:

Well I do love and hate it, but I hate it more and more, since I play now other racing games which make me remember where GT5 is lacking. Hope GT6 does alot better than 5. But I had fun during the time I've played it. Now I'm busy with other racing games which are in my opinion better :dopey: From time to time I come back for the Nürb though :D

Actually, despite my criticism (and that range of smilies wasn't serious ;)) I still enjoy playing GT5 hugely and it's still the game I find myself going back to more than any other.

The thing that gives it longevity for me is both the online aspect (not exclusive to GT5), the addition of cockpit view (again, not exclusive to GT5) and last but certainly not least thinking about it, is the Course Creator when just driving around offline.
It isn't perfect but I often make a huge batch of new tracks 'on the fly' just for driving around and keep (or try to improve) the good ones, the whole 'not fully in control' thing that's often rightfully criticized ironically gives it a bit of a throwaway casual appeal to just experiment and see where it takes you.
The mindnumbingly dull repeated scenery aside, if it weren't included I'd be bored with the small amount of tracks available a long time ago.
 
I love it for the reasons that I would never sell it and the fact that I can get back to it every now and then. I have serious problems at some of things in GT5, but I am a very considerate person and I try to understand the things that go behind doors.

However, I don't expect to be as considerate for GT6. I expect that thing to bring back the charm of the GT series; lots of races and tracks, especially for a second iteration of one generation.
 
Love and hate.

It's like having a brother who was your best friend as a child, but he grew up to be an annoying unstable idiot with no common sense, but very book smart.

Even since I was 6 or 7 (whenever GT1 came out) I have been glued to the games. Bought new steering wheels as times rolled on and new games came out. I've loved every bit of GT1-GT4.

I only love GT5's handling physics and graphics. I hate the clutch physics, car selection, DLC, clutch physics, non-anti lock brake physics, sounds, track selection, clutch physics, and numerous other things (did I mention the clutch?). I'll likely be going the Xbox route next, which pains me to say because I was a total GT fanboy. I played Forza 4 with a fanatec, and while the handling wasn't quite as good, the game was WAY more fun.

If Kaz fixed the clutch and released some real mid-range sports cars it would be fun again. I swear if I see another DLC release with a GTR I will break the game in half.
 
Play it if you want or play something else if you don't like it anymore, quit whining about a two year old game.
