The FIA GT Championship (Now FIA GT Series) is the premier championship for European GT racing and had it's inaugural season in 1997. It was dominated by Mercedes-AMG and their advanced CLK GTR, with McLaren's F1 GTR Longtail and Porsche's 911 GT1 taking up most of the rest of the GT1 field along with the Lotus Elise GT1 and Lister GTL, while the GT2 class was mostly filled with 993 GT2's along with 2 Saleen Mustang's, a Callaway Corvette and a Morgan Aero 8, among others. Roock Racing, backed by Porsche AG, entered a 993 GT1, alongside their 993 GT2, in the championship. They finished 5th in the GT1 Teams Championship (and 2nd in the GT2 Teams Championship with a 993 GT2) and also finished 13th & 16th in the driver's championship.
