I brought this wheel a while back & never got it to work with any of my ps3 games, I tried updating but it never worked so I ended up selling on ebay.

Now with the realise of GT5 coming this year im looking at buying another wheel, I was going for the G27 but its still very pricey IMO & I honestly think I like the feel of the 911 turbo better.

Im looking at buying from here:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=284_952&products_id=13466

Would that require an update?

Is this all there is to GT5P? https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=109720&highlight=Fanatec

Must I update using windows XP?

I simply wanna make sure I can get this working with GT5P & other force feedback supported games as soon as I get the wheel..

Any help will be great thanks :)

I think you should just change the date on the PS3 to fix the problem, it was before 2008 date or something similar.
Either buy TURBO S or GT3 RS VERSION 2. Version 2 works right out of the box, so does Trubo S. Buy either two of them. I think the old 911 Turbo is not worth getting.

If you only use to play PS3 and PC, I would buy RS wheel V2, it will work with ALL PS3 racing games that support Force Feedback.

I turbo S needs no updates at all?

Also RS wheel 300USD, Im not sure im willing to spend that much, it'll work out to be alot AUD$ & postage wont be cheap I assume.

Where can I find the turbo S? Ebay only has normal 911 turbo..

I've got a Porsche 911 Turbo wheel and it works flawlesly with GT5P. You basically have 2 options:

1: Update the firmware of the wireless dongle (must be done in Windows XP afaik), and set your ps3's date to sometime before december 2008

2: Buy the wireless dongle from the Turbo 'S' wheel. This is fully compatible with both the original 911 Turbo Wheel and GT5P

The RS seams a little over priced for what im willing to spend, I will keep in consideration though..

Also i tried signing up to the find out postage costs to Australia & Australia is not even in their..

Where can I find Turbo S for sale in australia? Or posted to australia..

Also whats the wireless dongle from the Turbo 'S' wheel?

Would that play games like Blur without the need of updating on xp?

my posts even showing up??

I'd be happy with just a normal 911 turbo for $230 as long as it works fine with GT5 & GT5P.

Its just the issue of weather or not I can manage to update the dongle alone because from what I read Fanatec wont be much of a help..

So where can i order a turbo S in australia?

Or the dongle the will work will all supported force feedback games/?

Heres the instructions for firmware updating the original PWT dongle copied from the Fanatec:

De-activate any anti virus programs

Unpack the file PW_UPDATE_4v3.zip into an empty folder on your desktop

Make sure the dongle is connected to the PC

Double click on the file PW_Update.exe

Click on "Step 1: Start bootloader"

Windows will try to install drivers for the boot loader which loads the new firmware into the dongle.

Do NOT let Windows look for the driver automatically or online. Instead select the folder "USB Driver" of your unpacked files.

Confirm all warning messages that you want to install the driver

After the bootloader has been installed correctly close PW_UPDATE utility and open it again (this is necessary on Vista)

Press "Step 2: Update PW Firmware"

Select the file rf_dongle4v3.dld

If the PW UPDATE UTILITY shows "no device detected" then the firmware patch was succesful

To bind the dongle please bring the wheel and dongle as close to the dongle as possible.

Binding wheel with dongle:
Press dongle button
Press base button + start button at the same time and release
White LED on the dongle shows succesful binding

Binding pedals with dongle:
Make sure pedals have fresh batteries OR are connected to the power cable
Press dongle button
Press gas pedal and release to wake up the pedals
Press and hold all three pedals for ca. 10 seconds until the red LED stops blinking
The red LED shows succesfull connection to the pedals

As for the PWTS dongle, it seems to me that you need to buy it directly from Europe somehow. Either get someone to buy it here, and then mail it to you, or buy second hand here. Via Ebay for example ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-Fanatec-Porsche-Dongle-USB-Key-Never-Used-/270603584671?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN )

Thanks alot djustiz! 👍

I turned the fanatec website upside down looking for instructions.

Will this work on both verions of vista? 32/64bit?

Yes, it will work on Vista 32/64.

Like others have said, there was most likely nothing wrong with your original Turbo wheel. You just needed to set the date back on your PS3. However, all newer Fanatec wheels have updated firmware to get around this issue.

I believe Thomas is working hard on securing a distributor for Australia to bring costs down for Aussies.

The Carrera Wheel will be out in a few months. All the features of the Turbo/GT3RS V2, but at a much lower price (comes with pedals and H-Gate shifter).

Stupid n00b question but ehhh..

When I change the date on my ps3 & unlock a trophy, its going to say that I earned the trophy in 2008 yes?

I wonder if I will need to set the date back for GT5 when its realised

Maybe I will need to upgrade the dongle, I mean I wanna try & platinum Dirt 2. I only need a few more online trophies & if I do manage to unlock them. then its going to say that I earned the platinum 2 years before I earned the other 90% of trophies..

I just dont like that because I hate gamesaves & its annoying how people use them to get platinums, now its going to look like im a cheat maybe..

Anyone got any more suggestions on where to look for an upgraded dongle?

Also guys thanks for all your help! :)
This is all great & I appreciate it heaps.

As soon as my money transfers into my bank account from PayPal I will order the 911 turbo + express post for only $245..

IMO its a bargain n a half!

The 3 force feedback motors are great, it gives a better feeling than the logitech IMO & I also believe that I will be slightly faster using the 911 turbo rather than a G27..

Dont get me wrong, A G27 will be fun as! Especially for drifting with a manual transmission.. But I just cant shake of the fact that GT5 has go karts now & a 900 degree steering wheel for a go kart is rather stupid, I think you might need to use a normak controller for those races or be prepared to swear at your TV.. 911 turbo it very simple to change the turning degree.

& with my history of GT, i LOVEE scrolling through the cars for sale, checking out cars, tunning & upgrading, I could literally spend hours on the menus without racing sometimes..

The G27 dont have much buttons that are useful for me, its got them on the gear stick but I'd be using my left hand just pointing at the buttons to scroll through the menus, which I really could not do! there will be no enjoyment for me, I need to use a controller & G27 only racing but who really wants to keep changing.. Not me.

Another advantage of 911 turbo that goes beyond price for me is the buttons on the wheel & where they are located, The 'o' button is perfect almost for a quick hand break, Might not be as good as modding a handbreak yourself but still beats the tiny buttons on G27, when u think about it those buttons are useless while driving on a G27, just way too small..

I agree that the price is an absolute bargain! I recently bought my PWT (Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo) second hand for approximately the same (and then I paid 38€ for the PWTS dongle because I thought setting back the date was too inconvenient). I would do it again in a heartbeat. Worth every penny in my opinion.

$240 for the fanatec 911 turbo

Another dongle posted to me in Australia will cost me $70AUD

Is the date setting's the only thing it will change really?

Will it work on more games than the normal dongle updated would?

Will my ps3 system change the date back to its origional via internet without my permission?

Would I need to make keep changing the dates for update reasons or anything? Any tiny little hiccups im missing?

If it literally is just changing the date back on my system only once then I dont think I will bother paying any extra for it..

I only bought my PS3 to play GT5P and GT5 when it is released, so I can only really comment on GT5P right now. And yes, in GT5P the only difference I've spotted is the date change.

Will it work on more games than the normal dongle updated would?

I only play GT5P, so I really can't tell.

Will my ps3 system change the date back to its origional via internet without my permission?

It's quite easy to disable internet time, and then it would just be a one time thing (apart from the fact that as time passes your 'local' PS3 time may surpass december 2008 ;-) )

Would I need to make keep changing the dates for update reasons or anything? Any tiny little hiccups im missing?

No Idea, sorry.

If it literally is just changing the date back on my system only once then I dont think I will bother paying any extra for it..

I didn't think so either, but everytime I started GT5P I got a info screen telling me that the date was wrong. I know that it may seem kind of neurotic, but it annoyed me enough to make me buy a PWTS dongle. ;-)
