I inherited a Porsche 914\6. It's 500 miles from here in a desert town where it has sat in a driveway for 10 years. It was not running when it was parked and I have no idea the last time it moved under it's own power. I don't know for a fact but it is likely a numbers matching car. I can do most of the work on it myself but it will be laborious since I don't have a lift. All the right conditions are there for a really nice restoration but it's a glorified VW (ducking quickly from the Porsche guys) and it will take me a year or more to get it going.

A restoration would require some element of passion to keep yourself motivated. Does the prospect of getting it running again excite you? If not, sell it, otherwise it becomes just another driveway ornament you keep trying not to look at each morning and night. I voted "Sell it as is" because I feel if you have to ask others then you may not have the motivation to see it through (with the obvious caveat that I don't know you at all!).

I wouldn't crush it unless it's just a lump of rust, and even then it could be worth trying to sell it first, priced lower than most resto projects but higher than scrap value.

If You're not motivated to keep it, sell it to someone that would be happy to own it.

Restoration of a Porsche flat 6 engine is expensive task to do.

These cars are now, at least for me, more interesting than heaps of 911s around the world.

Thanks for the input everyone. I would love to get the car running and at least play with it a little bit. As a former 77 280Z owner I'm very fond of the old sports cars. Noting like grabbing a tie rod end in both hands an running these old girls though the gears. To restore it would be glorious but just a ton of work. I think I'll answer my own question once I get my hands on it. I'm planning on hooking up the trailer and heading over to pick it up some time this next moth. I'll keep ya posted.

914/6s are potentially worth a lot right now if it is a real /6. There are a lot of conversions around which may be good cars but seem to bring much less money no matter how well they are done. Check out www.p914-6info.net and send me an e-mail about your car. Maybe I can help.
