Hello-
My name is Normy, and I have been banned from some of the finest websites in the world!
Proud? Yes and no. I like the interaction that these web forums give, but it is hard to not state my feelings at times. You see, people "drive" these forums like they are in their car with tinted windows. I have tinted windows on the Porsche 928S2 that is my daily driver, and when [daily...] I get cut off in traffic, I like to extend one single finger at them from behind my tinted windows. They cannot see my extended digit, so I get the satisfaction of venting my feelings while not receiving a bullet wound. And these forums are just the same- people tend to say things or make verbal "gestures" that they would never, ever do in real life, face to face. I am 100% guilty of this problem, and it is a problem.
I do NOT intend to get banned from this website.
I've kind of learned my lesson. I fly jets for a major cargo-only airline, and I have been captain for several years of Boeing 727 and 747 airplanes. When you are a captain, you HAVE to pay attention to EVERYTHING, and you cannot be afraid to say something to someone when you find that they are doing some activity that you don't approve of. Thus I've developed a bit of a "mouth" in my years; For a while now I've let that "mouth" move into my fingers, saying what I want on various car and aviation web forums and have paid the price as a result. Enough of that.
There's probably someone on here who recognizes my screen name, I refuse to hide or use subterfuge; Normy is here.

NOW....lets get down to business. I drive a 1985 Porsche 928S2 [along with a '97 Ford Aerostar, and an '01 Subaru Outback LL Bean] 5 speed. This car is a "grey market" import, brought into the country in June of 1985 with just 12 km on the clock. These have the wild non-US unrestricted 4.7 liter SOHC V8 engine.....10.4:1 compression, LONG duration cams, no pollution equipment whatsoever. 310 hp according to the book, but they routinely make 280 hp stock on chassis dynamometers, meaning that the real output is probably 330 hp. With 3300 pounds to move, this car can reach 100 mph in less than 13 seconds, and reach 105 mph in a quarter mile. It sounds like a Winston cup stock car courtesy of the Borla exhaust, and you can buy six of these cars for the cost of a new corvette!
My $10,600 car, purchased in May of 1999? To this day, if I go to some of the clubs in Fort Lauderdale...they let me valet park the thing in front of the door for free. They want the "image" that the car imparts. Heh heh! You can't come close to buying the cheapest Hyundai on the road for what I paid for this car! Practicality? Last fall I found a washing machine at a thrift store, and bought it immediately at an incredible price. Problem: I was at the place with the Porsche, and they wouldn't wait for me to get the minivan. Several people were eyeing the thing, and one of my tenants washer had died that very morning. So...up goes the yawning hatch, down go the back seats...and 15 minutes later there was a new used washing machine in my driveway! It was a short drive, but several people in passing cars used their phones to take a picture of the exotic 170 mph Porsche with a washing machine sticking out of the back end~
You've got to love a car that can do basically anything! The only down side of this car, which I work on myself...is that it is a PIG. I tell people that it will pass anything but a gas station, and I'm generally not kidding. This car is smaller than it looks- at 175 inches long, it is about the size of a Honda Civic sedan or a VW Jetta, WAY smaller than a Mustang or corvette, yet it eats gas like a Ford F250 V10- 11 mpg is what I get in traffic with a bit of a lead foot. It can get about 21 or 22 on the highway if I keep it down to 70, but this thing and its cams are all about high end power; The car was intended to be the alternative to a corporate jet in Europe. It is NOT a "sports car", it is a GT. High speed comfortable transportation, oil pumps and cooling system designed for sustained 150 mph speeds on unrestricted open highways in Europe. This is a rare engine in that the HP rating is a flat rating- there is no 5 minute time restriction, unlike American, Italian, and Japanese makes. You can see this in the proportions of the engine, which is technically a "big block" due to the bore spacing, 122 mm, same as a chevrolet 454, while displacing only 286 cubic inches [Arias, a company out of California, has built several 32 valve 502 chevy big blocks using Porsche 928 heads]. All the extra room went toward sturdy construction and huge water jackets.
Anyway, this is me, this is the car, here I am....stuck in the middle with you!
[wasn't that a song that I kind of segued into?]
