Straight off the autoweek presses. Hit next photo to view more pics, and eventually on to the solstice.

Not much info on either. Note the different wheels front and rear on the porsche and the almost ruf-esque spoiler.

490HP is a huge leap isn't it?!? That's more than what the '04 GT2 and GT3 RS had (483hp and 381hp respectively - fast-autos.net). I wonder what sort of HP numbers the '06 GT2 and GT3 models will sport if the Turbo is at 490HP. Plus...Porsche's version of the SMG...what a bummer - it's bad enough that in Singapore every single Porsche (save for 2 - an 80's 911 Turbo and a rare flatnose) is already a tiptronic - since the government seems to dispise manual...but 911 Turbo's without a full manual gearbox are just a painful sight!!!

Any Porsche without a real manual transmission is a disgrace! (The Cayenne doesn't count...) The Boxster and the 911 are probably the last road cars on Earth I'd want to have an automatic.

Aside from the hp increase, nothing too new about the 911 Turbo. Looks about the same as the old one.

There are a lot of vents on this...hopefully that's just cos it's a test car. There're already enough vents on the 996 Turbo as it is...

edit: 490 bhp is interesting though... :)

Meh, given that there are three production cars with more than 600bhp, it's not that interesting. And the M5 has 500bhp. Porsche will need to have done a good job with the chassis.

Power isn't everything. 911s usually punch above their "weight" in this respect, especially in acceleration tests. The 997 Carrera S was less than 2 seconds slower than the Ford GT in Autocar's 0-100mph-0 test, and that's with about 150 less horsepower. The new Turbo should therefore be a giant-killer, even more than it has in the past...

Looks like it will be the best looking 911 turbo we've had for some time. The back end reminds me a little of the 959.

I think this car has more than 550hp. Porsche has never been what you might call 'spot-on' with their public performance ratings. :sly:

More than 550 is a bit speculative isn't it? I mean that would make it the highest HP rating for a road-going Porsche, even more than the 1997 GT1 Road Car. It's already rated at more than the previous generation GT2 and GT3 RS...

With the Soltice GXP it will more then likely be supercharged. But I haven't been by that project in a long time.

Porsche's slogan is "There is no substitute." And as far as this Porsche goes, there's no replacement for the aggressive and perhaps powerful Porsche 997 Turbo. It looks like an awesome machine that can surely back it up. And I agree with miss "McLaren'sAngel" about the front bumper. Don't really like that sort of look on this car with those air ducts. If you're going to be a high-performance variant of a car, you'll need to be agressive, yet look good doing it. And if this thing is any indication, this is going to be one sweet Porsche.

Was looking for an article on the Vector W8 the other day in an old magazine for another thread when I noticed that the magazine had the test of the 1998 911 Turbo S. The 911 Turbo S was a special edition since Porsche were moving to the water-cooled engine. The Turbo S put down some very impressive figures with its mere 450bhp.

0-30mph in 1.5 seconds, 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, 0-100 in 8.6 seconds, 0-150mph in 22.1 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.1 seconds @118mph.

And remember, these times were made with 'just' 450bhp, compared to this car's 490bhp.

Again, I think this car will certainly be special :)

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

After looking at some recent Porsches, I find it a bit funny how the front looks the same. If I was to see the front of a Porsche coming from afar, I wouldnt be able to tell which Porsche it is! :dunce: :embarrassed:

You mean how the 996 and 997 Carrera look virtually the same?

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

What I mean is that how the front end of Porsche can fool people from afar. I get fooled quite often when I see a Porsche coming far away. I keep thinking its (X) Porsche, but often it ended up being a Boxster. :dunce: It's all about those Porsche headlights and hood shape. :embarrassed: They can fool many people from afar, making us guess which Porsche it is. :embarrassed: 👍

I can usually differentiate them from afar, but then again I can tell a crown vic from over a mile back. :) (That way I know to run or not!)
