Kickstarter is a site where entrepreneurs go to receive funding for their creations, and some do get it.

Of course, it can be misused. And it has been, a user has posted Potatoe Salad on the site, asking for just $10. He's so far received $70,000 still with 28 days to go until funding stops.

Need a way of making money?

I smell BS potatoe salad. Though if people are so willing to give away their money then let me introduce my "Whatever I find in my fridge that can be blended and/or deep fried" project. :P
Oh but you get a free hat! And a bite of the potato salad! And that's about all you get from it... I guess.

Actually he hasn't received a dime yet. It's as easy to un-pledge an amount as it is to pledge. Let's wait until the money actually changes hands, which won't be for a while yet.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure there are at least a few who will pay up simply because it's such a cool/bizarre (take your pick) idea.

As the first time, yeah they'll probably earn a lot of money from people who is getting a laugh out of this, but the second time that someone tries to pull something similar off, the same people would probably just be derided as copycat and would be made a laughing stock.

With all the money he's making, the potato salad will become the seasoning for the main course.

Great timing I guess.

I'm personally not a fan of this. It kind of sucks that these days people expect artists to accept meager compensation at best for their services, and yet people will pony up $70k for a guy asking for potato salad on Kickstarter. Plus, I'm sure there are many more worthy Kickstarters that are getting nothing. I'm not really a fan of Kickstarter in general (what happened to making money yourself?), but this is particularly aggravating.

Yes, I'm bitter. Get off my lawn. :grumpy::dopey:

It's funny. And it'll follow the generally accepted rule of the 'net: any half-baked (ha!) imitators won't see a fraction of the success of the original.

Except for Flappy Bird and 2048, right?

With that kind of money, he can make a potato salad.....restaurant.

Seriously, think about the potential. From a food only his mother enjoys to a whole franchise that can generates money for them ;)

I thought money generated from KS was forbidden from being used as charity money in any way.
Well the report says they have receive it.

Keep in mind they only need 10$ for the potato salad and kickstarter had to receive the surplus. So rather than letting the money dangling for nothing, they better arrange the charity event.
