PP upgrade to win races - for dummies!

So lets say I'm wanting to unlock everything as quickly as possible and I'm doing one of these menu challenges and finding that its not so easy to win or place in the race. Lets say my car is 540PP and the race recommended PP is 600PP. So I need to upgrade the car slightly to give myself a bit of a performance edge so I can easily place/win to complete the menu and crack on with unlocking stuff.

I don't know that much about all the performance parts and I don't want to really invest the time right now to learn all about them. I just want to know the most efficient, cheapest upgrades to get my car to 600PP or thereabouts

So I'm just trial and erroring parts and seeing what each part would take me to in terms of PP points. It seems to me that in almost every case, putting a pair of soft tyres (approx 3000 credits) is the best bang for buck performance upgrade.

Am I correct? What are the other "go to" performance upgrades that I should be looking at? Is there like a list of the best bang for buck performance upgrades generally? Will it be the same for each vehicle? Or might it be the case that on one car, adding soft tyres adds 30PP while on another car, adding the computer chip thing will be a bigger PP increase?

  • Sports Computer – Costing only 1,400 credits, this affordable upgrade tunes the engine control management (ECU). This results in increased torque and throttle response.
  • Sports Air filter – This upgrade improves engine response. At only 600 credits, this is a cheap upgrade.
  • Sports Silencer – Costing 1,400 credits, this reduces the engine’s exhaust resistance. It also makes your car sound better.
  • Sports Brake Pads – Upgrading the brake pads will increase the stopping power. This upgrade costs 300 credits.
  • Street Suspension – If you want to improve your car’s handling, installing Street Suspension increases stability and lowers the ride height. At 2,100, it’s not a cheap upgrade when starting your career.
  • Weight Reduction Stage 1 – Costing 3,000 credits, this is the most expensive upgrade in the Sports category. It’s worth it though, as your car will benefit from improved acceleration, cornering, and braking.

Yep. Tyres first, then weight reduction. After that it's a case of weighing up power to handling. If room for more power then start improving the suspension and brakes in tune with it.

Tbh on hard difficulty with the cafe races, spending all your PP on the best tyres you can fit is usually enough, except for power tracks.

Do a unmodded test race first. See at what part of the track the gap to the leader goes up or down. And don't forget you can swap the mods on car setup, so if you needed power at high speed ring, you can swap the power for handling at Laguna seca.

This could be a 10 page answer but here's what I found after completing all the cafe menus:
1. HP is king. When the game starts you like 40 seconds behind the leader, it's tough to race a technical race. Far easier to jump into a GT-R and blow past everyone on the straightaway.
2. Personally the transmission upgrades seem like a waste. If you need to squeeze every bit of advantage from your car, manual transmission will be necessary. But for cafe menus, you can skip transmissions entirely, seems like waste of money.
3. Weight reduction 1 is a must because you get a lot of value out of it unless you are very close to maxing out your PP and you want to prioritize hp over weight.
4. You must upgrade your tires, but tires also seem to have the biggest impact on your pp. Sports Soft are cheap and could essentially get you through the entire game. Plus they are very good value for the amount of pp that they increase you by. There's a part in the middle of the campaign where you're dealing with a lot of rain so you could consider intermediates for those races. Rain however seemed to disappear towards the end of the menus. There were only a few races where I had the chance to run racing tires. For 90%+ of the races, sports soft had the best value in terms of performance vs pp cost.
5. Invest into brakes, they are cheap.
6. Personally I think the second suspension makes more sense. It's marginally more expensive than the first, but seems to provide great performance. Most cars can be driven perfectly fine on the cheap suspension.
7. Only you can really answer how much you need to invest into hp upgrades. Look at the prices and upgrade accordingly to how much help you need.
8. You should look for value in upgrades. Don't just get the cheapest upgrade. Many later upgrades cost only a little bit more but provide way more of a performance boost.

That's my "guide"... Personally I always start with weight reduction #1, sports soft tires, nice brakes, second suspension, and the cheap hp upgrades on the 4th page. Then I go from there to see how much pp I have left to play with and how much I want to invest into that particular car. I didn't mind getting all the upgrades for my GT-Rs. Ferraris on the other hand I got the bare minimum to get through the races.

Use the best Tires you can buy und you are ready to race.. if you need better Performance... pull Down the Car weight, then better Brake Parts, then Suspension and last but not least Power. If you need only High V-Max use Power as Step 2. not and never as Step One.

Remember: "Power is nothing without Controll!"

Looking for PP as a guideline can be a bit treacherous as most people don't seem to reflect on the track they're going to race on. The game even highlights this at a certain point. I've lost many races due to long straights and me investing too much in corner handling. My PP can be more than 50 points higher than the competition but I'm still not able to outperform them. I always want as challenging racing as possible so finding this balance can be quite difficult.

I usually just put a set of sports tires and reduce the weight (1). Mother usually puts me closer to the recommended PP and I overtake the first car on the last lap or sooner, depending on the track. For the Porsche Cup on Spa I had to install a few more things to get 630PP (recommended is 650) and I could keep the first car behind me on the last lap despite the fact it being faster on straights.

I haven’t played on controller since GT6 (around 2014 since I last played) and I’m way too slow compared to driving on my wheel. But still doable.
