The main reason I started this is to ask a question. There will be more rants and questions later from me and all of you fellow GTP'ers I'm sure.

So here's my first rant :

Pete Rose - he paid his dues , yes or no ? sure he gambled on baseball and he has openly admitted to doing it , so why can't he go into the Hall of Fame ? If you look at members that are presently in the baseball HOF , you will find that that they are all not squeaky clean inductees , there are "tainted" members in there as well.Should we build a "tarnished" wing in the HOF for these type of members , or do we just look the other way and pretend it never happened ?

Things Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose has accomplished , career highlights and awards:

17x All-Star selection (1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1985)
3x World Series champion (1975, 1976, 1980)
2x Gold Glove Award winner (1969, 1970)
Silver Slugger Award winner (1981)
1973 NL MVP
1963 NL Rookie of the Year
1975 World Series MVP
1976 Roberto Clemente Award
1969 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award
1968 Hutch Award
1975 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year

MLB records :

4,256 career hits
3,562 career games played
14,053 career at-bats

Thoughts anyone ?

Or a new sports rant from anyone ?

why are football (soccer to you Yanks) players such pussies
they are all p00fs
and the diving...its just rediculous
nowadays its like they get brushed by someones hand and they go down to the floor like they've been shot
grrrrr

Pete Rose...You got all the numbers in place Nicks, and there is NO DOUBT his stats all round except for power #s are very high all time in many areas. But those of us lucky enough to be able to watch this man in his prime day after day(Thanks to cable TV in the 70"s) can tell you there have been precious few who played the game with as much passion, desire and Bulldog determination. This was a guy who was'nt blessed with the body of a sculpture or had World class speed,or a swing that hardly looked text book.No Pete was a Ball Player a DAM good player, whatever his team needed that inning he delivered most of the time. As for the gambling,it looks pretty tame and honky tonk now compared to what our "Stars" using the term loosly are into now. If Pete cant be in the Hall then tear the DAM Thing down there should'nt be one. PERIOD

Talk to Eduardo, Djibril Cisse or David Busst about how 'poofy' football has been to them.

Barry Bonds and Pete Rose need to be in the HOF for sure. I don't care if they have asterisks by their names.

Why bring up Barry Bonds?,he has not been "banned" from anything yet. Pete has been for the last 20 yrs. I dont think Barry has suffered any Ill effects from his Lying yet.

Because football is quite specific about where contact is allowed, and with it being played openly over a large area (as opposed to rugby where much is within the rucks, or American football where much is at the line) it's hard for 3 men to call fouls that can be ever so slight. So players think this justify's them making it easier for the reff.

It doesn't, but they gain on it more times than they lose out.

Should the H.O.F.'s (baseball, football, basketball) allow such players in ? or just continue with their way of doing things as they are now reguardless of how they got in there(steroids, other performance enhancing drugs, gamblers, etc. etc. etc.) ?

If they let them in fine (we all know there are athletes in their appropriate Halls who are "shady") .Should they be singled out with an asterisk beside their name detailing that this particular athlete was a "roid" user, "gambler" or whatever ?

If they don't let them in because of such scandals, should all other members who are already in the H.O.F.. be removed because of their "blackened roles" that they played in their sport ?

Or like I mentioned before, each H.O.F. has a special wing for such players "these players were good , BUT........" (key word there).

In an era in which it seems so many were using the juice,it seems that there will be many in the Hall who will be questioned. So I would'nt mind seeing them in but WITH the cloud attached, same for gambling, drugs, whatever. Those that outclassed the rest should be acknowledged. Even if Barry was juicing so were a LOT of the pitchers he was facing.

OK, there are some exeptions who get real injuries
But also there are other players that don't play with a broken finger...

Because I wanted to include him. Clemens too.

Interesting that Barry Bonds is being brought up.If and when he retires from MLB and becomes eligible for the H.O.F. , how will people look at him ?

things he has accomplished in baseball :

7x Most Valuable Player (NL): (1990, 1992–1993, 2001–2004)
8x Gold Glove (NL): (1990–1994, 1996–1998)
12x Silver Slugger (NL): (1990–1994, 1996–1997, 2000–2004)
3x Hank Aaron Award (NL): (2001–2002, 2004)
14x All-Star selection (1990, 1992–1998, 2000–2004, 2007)
In 1986, Bonds led National League (NL) rookies with 16 home runs, 48 RBI, 36stolen bases and 65 walks
In 1996, Bonds became the first National League player and second (of the current list of four) major league players to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in the same season.
In 1998, he hit .303 with 37 home runs and drove in 122 runs, winning his eighth Gold Glove, and became the first player ever to enter the 400-400 club by having career totals of 400 home runs and 400 stolen bases.
In 2003 he became the only member of the career 500 home run/500 stolen base club.
In 2004, Bonds had perhaps his best season. He hit .362 en route to his second National League batting title, and broke his own record by walking 232times. He slugged .812, which was fourth-highest of all time, and broke his on-base percentage record with a .609 average. Bonds passed Mays on the career home run list, hitting his 700th near the end of the season. Bonds hit 45 home runs in 373 at-bats, and struck out just 41 times, putting himself in elite company, as few major leaguers have ever had more home runs than strikeouts in a season. Bonds would win his fourth consecutive MVP award and his seventh overall. His seven MVP awards are four more than any other player in history. In addition, no other player from either league has been awarded the MVP four times in a row.
On September 22, 2006, Bonds tied Henry Aaron's National League career home run record of 733.On the following day, September 23, 2006, Bonds surpassed Aaron for the NL career home run record.
On August 7, 2007 at 8:51 PM PDT, Bonds hit a 435 foot home run, his 756th, off a pitch from Mike Bacsik of the Washington Nationals, breaking the all-time career home run record, formerly held by Hank Aaron.Other things to watch that Bonds is approaching or going to add to :

H.O.F. numbers ? sure they are , BUT , how much of it is clean ? I think thats the question people need to ask themselves if it ever comes time for nominations for Barry Bonds and the H.O.F.. Personally, I say let him in , BUT , with one of these marks ( * tarnished ) beside his name.

Barry has been an awesome hitter ever since his debut,I dont have that big a problem with the roids because like I said eariler most of the pitchers he faced were too. Besides the roids dont make solid contact with a high tight fast ball for you, they mainly help the body stay injury free, heal from nagging little muscle pulls etc. The big prob with pros doing steroids is the young guys may ruin there lives with it. If a 35 yr old multi millionare pro wants to shoot roids thats his deal. And I really think it is more common in pro sports than we know,or will know there is just way too much $$$$ at stake for it to be clean.
