Hello to everybody. I'm writing from Spain, and firstly I would like to thank you the administrators of this great forum for such an incredible site.

My problem is the following.

In the European Races, In 1000Milles competion (24 laps to nurburing), I have to ride a car previous to 1970. The best car I have for this are two:
- 1963 mercedes sl 300 with 215 bhp.
- 1966 jaguar xjr with 245 bhp.

These cars are really good cars for that time, but my problem is that one opponent I have is AC Cobra, with 450 bhp aprox.

Do we have another car with more bhp that the two I have which I can buy?, or I just have to buy that AC Cobra car and drive with the computer with the same car?

Thank you and regards.

If you enter the race and see that, in the race line-up screen, the Cobra is present, exit and reenter until it is no longer there. You don't lose any game days or any race percentage by doing this.

And you could buy some tuning parts to boost your cars' powers (maybe with a race gearbox, to allow you to turn that power into speed rather than just acceleration)

Thank you Famine, but I preffer not to modify my lovely old cars, because maybe I will need then for a future race in which I could need not modified cars.

I think I will do your first option, to enter and get out of the race until the Cobra won't be present.

Thank you and regards.

Use removable parts - ROM upgrade, NA tuning, turbocharging/supercharging, exhaust/muffler, gearbox and so on.

Only port polishing and engine balancing are permanent.

... and weight reduction.

If you avoid the AC Cobra you'll find that your gullwing coupe can win that series easily even in stock condition. Another that can get the job done is the '61 Jaguar E-type.

A 1966 Jaguar XJR? Wow, I didn't even know that was in the game. In fact it isn't, not in the NTSC version anyway :( PAL only, I presume.

Even though the 1000 Miles! series is in the European Hall, it's not restricted to European automobiles only. So you can use the '54, '63 or '69 Corvette, either of the '69 Camaros, and a few others.

I can certainly understand your desire not to modify your classics. It almost seems sacreligious to do it, I know. But you can always win/buy another one and keep that one in mint condition; unlike real life there's an unlimited supply.

My favorite unmodified/tuned car to use in this series is the Ginetta G4. Of the 22 cars that are available to the AI, the Ginetta can beat all but three in stock form... so it doesn't take long to reset the field so they aren't included. The added benefit of this is that you'll also get a much closer race between all the cars, rather than having either the 427 S/C, E-Type, or Corvette blowing out the rest of the field.

For the NTSC version, there are 51 cars that qualify for this race and there are a lot of excellent cars to pick from, but your selection of a field of AI cars is just as important as picking your own car to use, as this will determine the competiveness of not only your car, but also the rest of the field.

This link will take you to an earlier thread where members disucssed what cars thay like to use in this event, and I also made a list of all the 51 cars that can be used, and ranked them by their power to weight ratio to give you a hint as to how they might compare performance wise.

In addition, this link will take you to a thread I started that gives detail information on the AI cars used in the 1000 Miles event, as well as how they perform in that event, so that you can more esily select a car which in your hands will produce similiar lap and race times.

The 1000 Miles event is one of my favorites in the game, as I love classic motor sports, and I hope this helps you find the right car, and right field to race it against. Good luck!
