I'm having a problem with Steam and haven't got a reply from them yet.

Not one game I have downloaded from Steam will let the surround sound work. Every game I have that has not been downloaded for Steam works perfect with surround sound working fine, but all of my steam games are only playing in stereo. I just noticed this after downoading Arma 2. I know that NBA 2k12 and skyrim's surround sound use to work, but now none of my steam games work right. I went and uninstalled Steam and re downloaded and installed everything again, and still no surround sound. My receiver shows that the games are paying in 5.1, but they are not. BF3, and start craft 2 still work fine. Those are the only non steam games I have.

I really have no idea what else to check. My windows settings are right, and if I had some kind of profile set for steam with only steroe checked, my receiver would show that only 2 channels of audio were being sent, but it shows 5.1 Any ideas on what I could check would be great..

Check your speakers maybe? If 5.1 is going out, but you're only hearing stereo maybe there is something wrong there. Check the receiver too.

As far as I know, there isn't any sort of Global A/V settings in Steam..

The speakers are fine. Like I said above, the 5.1 works fine with everything except games I have dowloaded from Steam. It works with the 360, ps3, tv, other pc games and everything else. I have no idea why it's doing this. There has to be something with steam causing this.

Here is a little more info. My sound is coming through the HDMI of my GTX 570 from my onboard i7-950. I checked to see if my Nvidia control panel had some kind of file for steam and maybe a setting was checked for it, but there is nothing that I could find in it, that would cause this. Like I said before the receiver is showing that 5.1 channels of audio are being sent to it, and it's showing that 5.1 audio is coming out of the speakers, but it's only coming out of the sub and towers. I'm not sure if my center channel is getting any or not, I haven't thought to get right up to it and listen.

It's like the games are only made in stereo. I've tried just playing like this, but it's driving me crazy. I've been playing with surround sound to long, to be able to play shooters in stereo.

Does anyone know how to actually get a response from Steams support? I filed the work order 2 days ago and have heard nothing back from them.
